Welcome aboard… I'm not a sysop, but maybe I can start up a discussion here by throwing in my 2-cents. Boy, you *do* like to ask the hard ones, don't you <g>? Seems to me that, since you've *already* got a pretty powerful DOS computer, you may want to go ahead and build on that–although there *are* some throughput problems w/Windoze that the Mac doesn't experience. (NB: Microsoft claims that Windows '95 is supposed to fix all this, and IBM alleges that OS2/Warp already does, but I couldn't say for certain–has anyone else tried these?) What kind of DTV do you want to get into? Are you simply looking for a powerful, snazzy edit controller & special effects box, or are you looking to do non-linear editing? If the former, you can easily get away w/what you want to do for a good bit less than the money you're talking–if the latter, that may be a bit harder. Well, *one* important consideration I can think of off the top of my head if you're looking to do nonlinear editing–you're gonna need one H-U-G-E hard drive (figure about 1 gig for 10 minutes of digitized video)! You haven't mentioned your hard drive size–what is it, or have you factored a new hard drive into your considerations? BTW, do you read VIDEOMAKER? They run a monthly sidebar called "Nonlinear Editing Price Watch", where they quote prices for a bare-bones nonlinear (Mac) system.
