D Our March issue has a review of a Power Mac running VVS and Premiere – check it out. In April we are reviewing Avid's Media Suite Pro and then the latest version of the Media 100. I can tell you from personal experience the Media 100 is a very nice machine, though not the only viable solution out there. It's unfair of me to really recommend a particular machine since the objective reviews we do in the mag are based on real pros using them in real professional settings, with the honest results printed. But (you knew that was coming) they all use Motion J-PEG compression with some individual tricks with the algorithms to "customize" the look of their system's compressed video. You can get almost component video at about 4:1 compression (given many other variables) and 7:1 looks pretty good, of course depending on the demands and on the "eye" of your "client." It sounds like you are on the right investigative track. Let me know what happens. Tim
