Has anyone have any advice, pros or cons about wordperfect for the amiga. I use wordperfect 5.0 for a pc and would like something that is highly compatible to it on the amiga. I would also like to know if it will work correctly with workbenck 2.0 and if it has page preview. Can you also transfer files between the pc 5.0 version and the amiga version simply. Thanks for any help. The price with a college discount is $89 so it seems very reasonable. If you prefer other wordprocessor for the amiga that have similar power as Wordperfect, please let me know. Scott A.

Unfortunately, I hear WP will not currently run on the 3000. A bug fix is on the way. This is only version 4.1, so there are no graphics and page preview is not needed. I believe 5.0 has a 'save under 4.x' requester in Text In/Out which should allow you to transfer stuff back and forth. I use 5.0 at the office, and although the 4.1 version for the amiga lacks the graphics (!!) capability, it is a very good version of 4.1 (nice file requestors, etc) compared to the PC 4.1. Thanks for the info, I guess I'll wait until it's version 2.0 compatible. Scott.

I hear the update is _real_ soon, like in a month…

Scott: The current version of WP for the Amiga is 4.1. However, the latest version permits you to export/import MS-DOS WP4.2 files if you have a translator program like DOS2DOS, or a Bridge Board. I use it all the time going from Amiga to MS-Dos WP5.1 and it translate everything, including foreign characters very well. Unfortunately, the Amiga version lacks many of the enhancements offered by WP5 and WP5.1, such as view, graphics and variable font sizes. But all I do is write my documents in Amiga, transfer them to WP5.1 and format them in the MS-Dos version. Bill Perez San Juan, PR

Scott, here's part of a message I saw on BIX some time ago. I don't have 2.0, so I can't vouch for its accuracy, but I have seen this advice repeated elsewhere. "…I've heard that you CAN get WP to run without crashing IF you set all of your fonts to 8-point, non-proportional fonts. Since you won't want to do this all thetime, I'd suggest a script file to copy the new fonts.prefs to your env directory, and another to restore the larger fonts when you're finished with WP. I'd be interested in hearing whether you or anyone else gets this to work…." If you get a chance to try this out, let us know how it works!

I've gotten it to work, but I think the difference is that I didn't get the most recent WordPerfect update. Apparently the update made it incompatible. With my version (dated 88 I think) it works with Topaz 8. — Ethan
