I'm using a 486DX66 with standard ISA Bus. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Pentium 90 with PCI Bus. For the German PAL-TV standard I need to bring 25 frames/sec sized 704*576 pixles @ 24Bit to my vcr. Because of the enormous amount of data I'm sure that I need to use data compression. Right now I'm experimenting with MPEG-2.

Stephen, I highly recommend the Personal Animation Recorder. This is the product of choice for true professional results here at Virtually Real. It is available in both PAL and NTSC versions. Since the PAR uses it's own processor, you needn't worry about the amount of video being directed to tape. No video bandwidth is moving across your bus. With a dedicated hard drive, you can probably pick up a PAR on the street for around $2500.00. In case youre not familiar with the PAR, it fits in a full length 16 bit slot, has broadcast quality video output in both S-VHS, MII, and BetaSP, has GPI triggering, and is just simply awesome!!! 30 fps (25 fps for PAL) of full screen full motion video outputted directly to any vcr. Just hit the record button and youre ready to rock! No single frame recorders to mess with. We use the PAR with all type of programs including 3D Studio, trueSpace, Topas, Razor Pro, Premiere, and Photoshop. It accepts standard TGA files as either stills or as sequential frames of an animation. I strongly suggest you check into this option. You can't go wrong! Dean Oliver Virtually Real

Also you might check into Videologic, Inc. a UK company, and enquire about Mediator and Mediator LC. The Mediator does NTSC, PAL, and SECAM, (I think) whereas the "LC" does only NTSC. I have the "LC" and am very pleased with it. It's external, hooks up via the monitor and therefore takes no serial port or memory address, DMA, IRQ, or anything. IT has controls on the side for regulating picture quality, centering, etc., and it doesn't cost the earth. You can look up Videologic by GO: VIDEOLOGIC on Compuserve. Scott

The DPS PAR is excellent according to everything that I know. The VVGA that I mentioned is a solution to record what you would have playing on the VGA screen. It does not offer any capture capabilities. it does provide for overlay, keying, etc. Again, there are many solutions here. The resolution that you are looking for should be the prime factor in your selction, I would imagine.
