#Help With SCSI Drives

A friend and I have come across a problem we can't seem to resolve. He is
trying to connect TWO SCSI Hard Drives to a Commodore A2090A. We've both
read the docs thoroughly but are still having problems. He needs to set
the Logical Unit Number for each of the drives. I was assuming it was done
in the mountlist but I can't find any examples.
Does anyone here know how to handle this situation? I have a 2091 which
does things considerably differently, like it doesn't need the mountlist.
He has two Hewlett Packard drives which are supported by just about
everyone. They have been checked out by Hewlett Packard and they are both
operating properly. We just can't seem to figure out how to handle the
LUN's for the two drives.
Thanks in advance for any help given, it is certainly needed.

P.S. Has anyone managed to get an HP LaserJet III to work with a parallel
cable longer than 10 feet? I just got the printer and found that it
wouldn't work with a 12 foot cable but it works fine with a 10 foot one.
Their manual clearly states 10 feet to be the max but I was surprised to
find 12 feet to be a problem. Anyway it's just one for someone to file
away until it happens to someone else!
P.P.S. I'm posting this in two areas as I haven't figured out the new
"redesigned" library areas yet. Please forgive if I made a mistake!
The Logical Unit numbers should be the same on all the drives. The SCSI ID
numbers have to be different for all drives on a SCSI bus. You can add up
to 7 SCSI devices to the SCSI bus (the SCSI controller is the 8th device).
Usually the controller is ID #7.
If no internal drives are to be used, then set the ID numbers of the two
drives (ie: set one to #6 and the other to #5. Sometimes there is a
push-buttom to do this; other times you have to change jumper blocks).
Daisy-chain the drives & remember that the first and last devices on the
SCSI bus must be terminated. If the controller is terminated, than this
counts as the first termination (I don't have any experience with the
A2090A, only SCSI in general). You'll have to terminate the last drive on
the bus. This should do it.
Let me know if you have any questions…I am currently using a HardFrame
with: 1 internal 80MB Quantum, 1 internal SyQuest, and 5 external 600MB CDC
drives.

Thanks for the information. With everyone pitching in I'm learning a lot.
Even though you don't have a 2090A you did a pretty good job of making
things understandable. I appreciate the help and I know my friend will be
very happy to get some help on this. It's nice to know I have somewhere to
come to get help with Amiga problems, believe me this isn't always true on
all nets!

The 2090A does not support LUNs. If the drives in question are real
SCSI drives, then you can set their addresses to different SCSI ID's via
jumpers on the drives. Set one drive to SCSI ID 0 and the second to SCSI
ID 1. Then, in the Mountlist entries, set the Unit parameter to 3 and 4,
respectively. This should work.
Also, a word of caution. Make sure that the terminator resistors are
removed from the "inside" drive (i.e., the drive that is not at the end of
the SCSI cable).

Thanks for the additional information. With all the help I've gotten here
things seem pretty clear to me. That will help tons when I try to explain
this to my friend who lives 1,000 miles from me. I think we'll get them
working now with all the information I've gotten here. I saw the drives
and I'm pretty sure they had jumpers on them, that ought to do the trick.
