#A1000 Help needed

I just purchased an old Amiga 1000 from a friend who bought a 2000, and
i am desperate for a memory expansion board to give me 1 meg of memory. I
havent been able to find one locally. Any help with names of the products,
mail order companies (reliable), and approximate price would be priceless.

Gordon– Have I got a deal for you. I have an old 1 meg board that I used
to use with my A1000. It was made by CLtd, which is now defunct so support
on it would be a problem but it always worked well for me. It you are
interested in it, let me know via CIS mail. I'd sell it real cheap as I now
use something else.
If you prefer to buy something current, I'd recommend what I'm now using:
the Starboard by Microbotics. You can buy it with 0 or 1 meg and add chips
via a daughterboard to get 2 meg. You can also add a 2nd daughterboard that
has a SCSI hard disk controller. You get a battery backed realtime clock
too.
You can get the Microbotics boards from several mail order outfits. I have
2 megs, and SCSI controller with an 80meg Seagate 296N drive. Works well.
Some mailorder prices are: Starboard (0meg) $239, SCSI board $95. I don't
remember what the board costs for the 2nd meg. GO AMIGO carries them. The
Seagate drive is around $350, plus you need a cable and case for another
$100 or so.

Yes I am interested. Is the board capable of connection via a user port
or other jack or is soldering required, I am somewhat hesitant about
soldering a board into my Amiga

I have had no problems with my Insider and the Insider II from DKB is a
good deal, 'cept that you've got to get in under the hood of your amiga (no
soldering though) – plus it has the clock built-in (do you have, need one
?). The Starboard is a very nice system, I have a friend with one – one of
the mail-order houses in this month's AmigaWorld had it bare for $184, the
chips to populate it to 1M would be 32 of the 256Kx1 type at about
$1.35-1.75 each or about $48/meg. I have seen daughterboard for the next
meg for $45 and the SCSI controller for $100.
I NOW have a Xetec which is based on their SCSI controller, for $175 but
which allows a nice inexpensive Ramboard add-on for $85 and expands carries
either 2MB OR 4MB using the SIMM chips which cost me $43 per MB.
The extra RAM is very nice but I strongly advise keeping an eye on the
hard-disk option(s) as well, which mitigate toward the Xetec (IMHO).

My company sells a board called the Insider II, which can add up to
1.5Meg of memory to your machine. It upgrades in 512K increments, and also
includes a real time clock. Suggested retail price is $249.95 unpopulated,
and should be available through a local dealer. If you can't find a local
