I have a GVPII controllor. I got it in the so called trade up. Well the bad news is the GVP will not work with all scsi setups. If you trade in a Cltd or a supra controler that used a adaptec or omti scsi to st506 setup your out a hard drive or two. It looks like the GVP controller only works with drives with integrated scsi controllers. Now thats bad news for any one with a A1000 hard drive setup and gets a B2000 and uses the trade up deal. GVP should say up front if the controler works with A1000 hard drive setups or not before giveing a tadeup deal. JOHN.

John, Have you called GVP and asked them about it? GVP has a reputation for excellent customer service. It may be something that they overlooked and will be anxious to correct. There should be no difference with using the Adaptec, since it looks like a SCSI drive to the SCSI host. It may be possible that you'd need to change the SCSI ID number on the Adaptec, for which you'd need the Adaptec docs. You didn't mention what your current setup is, but, if you got a drive with the GVP it's very likely that trying to reuse your older drive with the same settings would result in an address conflict. Also, any terminator resistors need to be removed from all but the last SCSI device in the daisy-chain. David

Syquest ID #0 Adaptec ID #1 . The drive lights up but the GVP prep says theres no drive to prep. John.

John, Sounds like you've got the ID set OK. Are you certain that the terminator packs have been removed from all but the last drive in the chain. (Sounds like it might be the Adaptec from your description. Do you have the terminator's removed from the Syquest?) What did GVP Customer Service have to say? David

I took the Syquest off the buss for a full test. It was a no go. The drive light would work but thats it. Fastprep says no drive mounted. I tryed the old mountlist way, but it will not format. When you call GVP you get a automated phone system. So im waiting for a call back. John.
