#A2320 and Troubles!

HELP! I just installed the Commodore A2320 and I'm seeing very bizarre behaviour. First of all on my NEC 3D I find I can't get rid of black borders at the left and right! I can adjust the top and bottom positions and size but the max left and right sizing leave two black stripes. I've also noticed with just the few games I've tried that the borders vary from game to game! Some look fine but most are in different places on the screen. If I adjust the preferences for the game then the workbench screen is way off. Also I should mention that the workbench screen is nearly perfectly square and I can't do anything to get rid of the problems. I also see some artifacts when playing a game, something Commodore claimed you won't see!!! I don't know if I have a defective card or system! I have a Rev 6.2B motherboard and all my cards check out OK. If anyone has any ideas as to what's going wrong, please let me know! Thanks in advance for your assistance. Keith

Keith, The NEC 3D is a great monitor, but, it is known not to work well with overscan. There's nothing wrong with your A2320. The monitor doesn't handle overscan images well. (One of the advantages of the new 1950 monitor is how well it works with overscan.) David

i would like to know if I have a panasync c1391 will it work well…. it says it can handle 1024*768 in interlaced mode as well as the macintosh II.. i have the spec sheet on it is there anything that can tell me if it can handle it

Henry, I haven't seen the Panasync C1391 or a spec sheet for it. Perhaps you can post some of the particulars for it here. If you want a general purpose monitor, i.e., one that would be usable for standard Amiga RGB as well as the de-interlaced modes, you'll need to look for a monitor that will sync at 15KHz and 31KHz. Some of the available multi-sync monitors will not go down to 15KHz. As far as how they work with overscan, I'm not certain that there's any spec on the sheet that will tell you. The NEC 3D is also 1024×768 (and is a very fine monitor – I use one at work), but will not handle overscan very well. If your usage requires overscan, then perhaps the best advice is to attempt to try one on an Amiga somehow, or ask here for experiences on that particular monitor. Another possible check is to call Redmond Cable to see if they make an adapter for that monitor to the standard Amiga 23-pin video RGB connector. If they've made a cable for somebody, they may have some knowledge about how the monitor handles overscan. Hope this helps. 8) David

well 1st i do have the panasync monitor and i hade made a cable for m all ready and works great but i am going to get the 2320 and hope it will great ..here are some specs Automatically scans all horizontal frequencies from 15.5 to 36KHZ and vertic …vertical frquencies 40 to 80KHZ…. has a dot pitch of .31mm

Henry, I'd suspect that it would give the same results (w/o flicker) as it does on normal Amiga RGB. (i.e. if overscan works OK for you now, it would probably be the same in de-interlaced mode – just suspicions, though, no experience or guarantees. 8) One note, I suspect that you meant 40-80Hz on the vertical, not KHz. Henry – I have sold a Panasync 1391 with a A3000 unit and it work perfectly. My customer loved it and he is more experienced with MultiSync monitors than I. So if you can get the Panasync for a good price – go for it. You might also want to look at the Leading Technology's 1432 Multiscan, from what I hear – a very good monitor. It is also usually less than the Panasync in price. The 1432 should be available for about $500 to $475. – Roy Pahnke – Casper, Wyomin'

Keith, The black borders on the right and left on your 3D are going to stay there. This is caused by the nature of most VGA compatible monitors. I have a Flickerfixer and the NEC 3D and have gotten used to the borders. Are you using morerows to increase the size of your screen. This can cause the problem of placement between games and your Workbench screen. I don't know if the A2320 is supposed to eliminate atrifacts on fast moving screen objects. I can sometimes see them with the FF but it doesn't bother me. Enough bitching, how does the picture look? ….Mark
