#HD Problem

HELP!!!! My Amiga 1000 has a problem. My system includes an Amiga 1000
that has been modified (via the Amazing Computing article) to have
Kickstart 1.3 in ROM. I have a Xetec Hard Disk with a 2 meg ram board. The
system worked perfectly for eight months. While moving the monitor, the
cable came loose. I plugged it back in without turning the power off. As I
did there was a brief spark between the cable and the monitor. I don't know
if this caused the problem or not. The next time I tried to boot the
computer, it didn't recognize the hard disk. The ram (which is a
daughterboard on the SCSI controller) works fine and autoconfigures. Once
power is turned on (or a reset occurs), there is a thirty-forty second
pause, and then the workbench hand appears. If a bootable disk is in df0:,
the computer will then boot from the floppy. Note: if a floppy was
inserted before, the normal procedure was for the hard drive LED to light,
and then the computer would boot from the floppy. Now it's as if the
controller can't find the hard disk. It's LED never lights. There is no
visible damage to the computer, controller, or hard drive. The cable tests
as good. Does anyone have a suggestion as to the likely cause? I will try
to test it with another 1000 to determine whether the problem lies with the
drive/ controller or with my Amiga. The printer and serial ports (as well
as RGB circuitry and video ouput) all work fine. I've checked all cable
connections. Any ideas?

I'd suspect you've zapped the HD portion of the Xetec.

phillip if you want some help tsting anything I have 2 A1000s, one fitted
with HDs and accelerator and one stock (512K, no expansions at all). will
try to help if you wish to send any items for testing, etc. it is possible
your hard drive died (it's on-board SCSI controller). I can try and test
it on my system (UPS it here if you like) or try the drive alone on someone
elses system with sCSI controller. if you need a
