#386 BB
23 messages in this thread
The guy who sold me my 386si said he was selling it because he was a beta
tester for a 386 BB, that was working very well i.e. VGA ect… This is not
a commodor product….
Fred E.
Beta tester for who, then? (pllllllleeeeaaase tell me)

Ben,
I'll ask him to see if I can tell, but I'm sure this company is NOT
intrested in NewTek style marketing….
Fred E.
What do you mean?? Newtek style marketing?

Ben,
You been sleeping the last five years… the concept of releasing
information on a product before it is, ready for production. Maybe I should
have said genral Amiga Marketing… I will restate here that I was wrong to
post that information in the first place.
Fred E.
Oh that kind of marketing! I just got so used to it with everybody (except
Black Belt). That I didn't relate it to Newtek soley.

Thanks. :^)
Ben
Anytime! ;-}

Uhhhh….
I don't think that the vapor-ware marketing approach was invented by Amiga,
let alone unique to it. (For example How many years did Microsoft take to
finally get windows (any version let alone the original promise of
multitasking), shipped. What about the loooong lead time for Dbase IV, and
the ATRSN (Any Time Real Soon Now) compiler for it?
The worst that could be said of New Tek marketing, is that they
pre-announced like many others, and then more than met their claims; unlike
many others.

Fred,
Can you post any more details about who puts it out and when? It
sounds interesting!

Pef,
It whould apear I stuck my mouth into my foot, I was wrong to post that
info, and am sorry, I was out of place. :^)
Fred E. PS But I did get my 386si out of the deal….
Fred,
Well, you'll just have to update us later then.

PS Meanwhile why don't you add to Steve's post about the 386si and tell us
what's compatible with it. Are you running any expanded or extended memory
cards? What DOS are you using? (Just wondering if you upgraded to either
MSDOS 5.0 or DRDOS 5.0 or 6.0!) What special tricks or techniques did you
find useful? Thanks for your information. <raving computer maniac> <^v^>
<=big smiley face!
Steve who…
Any way I'm running 386si with
Expanded Mem 2 meg. – Memo 2000
Dos 5.0
Targa Plus
I tried SOTA's Extended memory piggyback board, but to no Avail… The
Command to get AMouse to work is AMOUSE -X ATime does not work but you can
work aroud that by reading the time from Amy
I think I'm going to trade down to an AT card so I can get back my
harddrive proformace because this PCdisk think is just to darn slow…
Fred E.
Fred, what is slowing down your Drive thru PCDisk?

Paul,
Since I no longer have a slot for my SCSI hd controler I've put the HD
on the Amiga side and runit thru PCDISK.
Fred E.
Fred,
I can get a clock time from the one on my AST SixPakPlus, a
multi-function card.
Slots are in too short a supply, I suppose, to put a lot of stuff
on the bridgeboard.
Let us know how you make out! 🙂

Gayle,
Have you found a cheaper way than 4 slots for $96? I once saw 3 slots
added for $31, but the supplier is cleaned out, forever. 🙁
Paul

Paul,
I'm beginning to think that the cheapest way is to just buy a
complete IBM clone and hook a null modem from it to one of the serial ports
in the Amiga.
Alex is probably right about looking at flea markets and asking
over in one of the IBM clone forums.

I think you are right. A 386 mother board is $140. If I didn't by BB for
$150 I would have gone the clone route.
Paul

Paul–
Where do you get your motherboards from? $140 for a true 386 (even for
an SX) is a pretty good price.

Paul,
Still, having a BB in my Amiga appeals to the egineer in me! I like
having a versatile machine. Are you using Version 2.04? How do you like
it if so?
