#CrossDOS 1.44M?

I just read in an ad that CrossDOS can directly read 1.44M MS-DOS disks. I
have version 4.0 and I can't read them. I have a 3000. Is it the disk
drive? Is there a newer version?

Assuming you are using a high density 3 1/2 inch drive then you still
need a mountlist for the drive similiar to the mountlist for DI0:. If you
only have the stock Amiga drives (880K) you cannot read a Disk formatted
for 1.44 megs because the drive won't handle it. CrossDos does not support
HD disks because the Amiga does not regularly support HD disks. I hope
that answers your question.

Thanks Bruce. I have the standard 880K drive. I sure hope CBM comes out
with a HD drive sometime soon.

I have and am using CrossDOS 4.02a (the upgrade is available from their
BBS for download – (313)459-7271 6pm to 10am weekdays 24hr weekends). To
quote from the manual:
1.4 Product Limitations
High density formatted disks (1.2M and 1.44M disks formatted on the IBM-AT
and PS/2) are incapable of being read due to the current limitations in the
standard Amiga Hardware.
I am also running on a 3000 and am very impressed with the product and the
support from Consultorn.

I'll call the BBS number for the upgrade.
The manual does say what you quoted. That is why I asked the question.
Their add said it *could* directly read 1.44M disks. I guess I have to
wait until CBM comes out with HD drives.

CrossDOS can read 1.44M MS-DOS disks IF they're formatted for 720K! Need
new hardware to read the 1.44's. Their are some DOS utilities around that
give extra space on standard disks (like 820K on a 720K, not sure of the
numbers, a bit more). MS-DOS handles these just fine. Don't know if
CrossDOS will though.
