Ben,
Not sure if you can do this but why not? Ok. I'd like to render
some old lower color/resolution images in IP file/IO. Now it will do it but
why can't I save the improved image to a new buffer instead of the disk
drive? I have to save it and then reload it immediately if I want to use
the new improved image.
Um – wait a sec, here. When you render an image, it's NOT improved, it's
the best you can get from the current 24 bit state. You're not gaining
anything (that I can figure out)
By the way – you'll want IP 6.3; it has the coolest new fill mode(s), and I
think you'll REALLY like em. I was thinking of you when I designed em.

Lets, back up here. Hmm. Take 32 color lo res image and toss it in the IP
hopper. Render to 24bit or less. Now does not IP extrapolate those colors
the best it can, pad them out so to speak? I know it converts them to 24 on
the load but unless I save the image in that state…. Never mind this is
just too confusing here. I redo Imagine scanline traces in IP with the IP
renderer. I save them. I compare the original I brought it and the saved
version. Sure looks better to me. Am I hallucinating this or what?
No, you're not hallucinating, but the gain isn't coming from the render –
it comes when you load the image in. So, you don't need to reload it; just
use it as is, and work with it, and go from there. Should be fine. The
loading of the HAM-E mode image causes 2x as many pixels as the original
had to be generated. In other words, you feed it 320, you get 640. You can
do the same thing, inside IP, by using the scale functions. Just make the
image 2x as wide using stretch clip or Steeped Zoom (this last does
*exactly* what you want when set for 2x horiz 1x vert).
