Hi. I'm interested in import/export of 3D objects between the Toaster and IBM PC 3D applications. What formats does the Toaster support that can be understood by the PC ? Is there a conversion from PC formats to AMIGA in general ??? Lior. =8> .

Lior, to answer your question, most here will need to know WHAT FORMAT DO YOU NEED IN THE IBM WORLD? I expect RSN for an upgraded version of an Amiga program called 'Interchange' to be made available that will convert Lightwave 3D objects to virtually any other Amiga 3D object. You might ask John Foust over in the Syndesis section (here in AmigaVendor) about it, cause he will be releasing it. Soon, we all hope. 🙂 So, the only part of the equation left is, what format do you need it in for the IBM? Do you have a specific format in mind? If it is compatible with any of the amiga formats you'll be in luck, otherwise…. ??? –jp–seattle–

Well if John does put it out.(the LW converter) I believe It would go somthing like this… to convert it to OFF format you would use interchange to make it a TS3.0/IMagine object and then a program by glen lewis (I think) that will convert it to TTDDD and then to off with a TTDDD to OFF conversion program (whew) as for dkb or pvray im not sure…. Trace till ya drop! Greg knapp

If you are just wanting to convert framestores get Art Department Professional to convert to GIF. ( or so I have been told. )

What I was told by Newtek when I asked how to get my framestores to my pc was: Use Lightwave to save the file in an RGB format. Use Art Dept Pro to import the Lightwave saved file and convert to Gif. I haven't tried it simply because I bought a Targa board and get my PC files off the save Video signal I get my Toaster framestores. I don't use Lightwave and don't have the docs in front of me so I don't recall the "format name" they said to use. But I'm sure you get the idea of the conversion process. You are correct that you cannot read them directly.

Yes Larry, You can load a frameStore into toaster paint then save as RGB, It's not a framestore then and I've seen people get mad when I tell them they have to go through "major hassle" to load them. It's not "major", just 2 minutes work but it is a second big file (1 meg) that you need to haul around.

I'm not sure why someone would get mad about the RGB file if the intent to start with was to be able to then load the image into Art Dept Pro to convert to a Gif for a PC. That's what I was talking about.

Hope you don't mind if I jump in, If you load your frame into toastrpaint, then save it as an rgb file, Adpro will read it just fine. Frank
