Does anybody have prices and experience with GVP Series II A2000-COMBO board or CSA Mega-Midget Racer?

James, I have an older GVP 3001 with which I am quite satisfied. The new combo version has the SCSI interface, whereas mine has the older AT IDE interface and runs at 28 Mhz instead of 22 Mhz. Recent prices on the 22 Mhz combo with 1 meg RAM is around $810 mail order.

Thanks. Due to the Amiga being now omitted from even the Computer Shopper's obsolete computer list, I am just a ship deserting a bunch of sinking rats and am heading for the IBM clone world. It is not as exotic as the A-world, but is more stable and will last longer and have more software and hardware. I plan to keep the A-2000 untill I can unload all the transferrable stuff, then donate it to some worthy organization. Thanks much anyway.

Both machines have their place. I too have a PC clone (33Mhz 486) for various reasons, but when it comes to real multi-tasking, the Amiga has it beat hands down. Note that I run OS/2, and DOS5/Windows on the machine. Also, don't think that it is necessarily cheaper in the PC world. Software is definitely more expensive and the class of machine that (IMHO) rivals an Amiga for performance is none too cheap. In the long run, you are the one that has to be happy.

I imagine you have had a belly full of smart replies by now…. Personally I don't see the Amiga as taking on water, let alone sinking. To look to Computer Shopper for advice is not exactly the logic I'd use for what will be around tomorrow. First of all, Computer Shopper was sold awhile back to Ziff Davis publications. (They are a PC Magazine company. They understand nothing about the Amiga or any other computer. Having only the PC and Mac to cover will make their life simpler. If you will notice they do not cover anything else at all, anymore. Which is in keeping with the parent corporation philosophy.) Stable….???? Evidently your version of Winows 3.0 didn't trash your harddrive, and doesn't crash with the regularity of WB 1.1. (Mine did both!) More software… Yup! Of course there is more C 64 software than anything else in the world! Perhaps you'd like to go back to one of those for a broader choice. More hardware…. Well to be sure there are more vendors selling the same hard drives under differrent names, the same is true of mother boards, drive controllers, video cards etc. Once you've got your basic machine set up, it gets a bit more even. How many genlocks, video digitizers, audio digitizers, etc. are available for MS-Dos, and at what price? They aren't cheap, and they are very particular about what formats they support. Last but not least, in the desktop video market, Amiga has a 73% market share. When you get ready to donat that A2000, drop me a line, there are a few charitable organizations around here that can really use it.

James, I just got the GVP Series II A-2000 33 MHz Combo board. It works fine except for the boot68000 program, which is supposed to allow you to boot in 68000 mode. It works, but doesn't recognize any other cards in my A2500 after using it. Therefore my IVS Grandslam board with 210-meg HD and AE DataLink 2000 Modem are not available to me in 68000 mode. GVP spent three weeks over the phone with me and couldn't correct the problem. Now they think it's my motherboard. I have 6.0 and they said I should upgrade to 6.2. My dealer is providing me with the free upgrade this week. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. I believe the Combo Board is about $1,800. It accepts 16-megs of 32-bit Ram. I have 8-megs. I hope this helps. Dom Fontana
