Am I using the Object Blur wrong? When I experiment with it I get a very pixelated image that doesn't look very realistic. I get a noisy version of the blurred object. If this is the way it is supposed to work then I have a wish. I would like an object blur which would generate 5-10 (or some other number) copies of the object which would be rendered at the corresponding transparency (20% each for 5 objects, 10% each for 10, etc.) along the motion path. The number of divided objects could be controlled by the user. I have seen this sort of thing work in other programs and it produces a very smooth, realistic image. Perhaps an IPAS idea? Thanks, Scott

<< wish.. >> got it. but have you checked out pg 8-137 of the Ref Man and reviewed the Video Post Scene Motion Blur parameter versus the Object Motion Blur on pg 8-72. Note how dither can be controlled. jonas[adesk]

To get optimal results from Object Blur, you've got to experiment with the various settings (esp Samples) until it's completely unnoticable while the object is moving. The point of Object Blur is NOT to make things look blurry… it's strictly another form of antialiasing — but temporal instead of spatial. If you want a blurry trail, use the Scene Motion Blur feature in Video Post (it does exactly what you described), and if you want the best of both worlds, you can combine them together. – G

Thanks for the answer, G (or is that <g>? I'm still new to on-line-ese). I'm ashamed to admit that I've been trying to get away with completely ignoring the Video Post section of 3ds since I output my animations as targa files to a dedicated system which does high-end compositing/effects. Now that I know what I'm missing I'll correct my shortcomings. Thanks!
