#Amiga 1000 wanted
14 messages in this thread
Help, I am looking at an Amiga 1000 to be used primarily with video
equipment to make titles etc…
My question to all you Amiga users is, how much of an out-dated machine is
the 1000. How much of a dead end machine is it. What would be a good
price for a used one with a Commodore monitor and 512k?
All comments welcomed!
Thanks,
Carl…
Well Carl,
Amiga 1000s are not necessarily outdated but I believe you would be better
off buying a Amiga 500 or Amiga 2000. The reason being that the 500 and
2000 have a broader support base and more third party vendors to purchase
equipment from.
Their are several worthy machines (both 2000 and 500s), cheap too, that
sell in this very forum you left you message (ie: AMIGAUSER – messages –
#17 Classifieds).
The going prices on a used 500 are anywhere from $175 – 350, while the
2000s range from $650 – 2,500 depending on their configuration (ie: if they
come with hard drive, bridgeboard, Moniter, etc).
To get a good look at the classified section (if you already haven't done
so) set your MESSAGE AGE to ALL, I believe its selection #3 after you have
selected MESSAGES from the main menu. This will allow you to see some of
the most recent 500 and 2000 sales that I believe you would be interested
in.

Carl, I think you will find used A1000's available in the configuration you
specified for about $250-$350 depending on software, condition, etc. It is
an execellent choice as a standalone title box because of it's built-in
color composite output, bypassing the need to buy a genlock if you don't
need to superimpose your titles over footage. I use my original A1000 with
a supergen downstream from my Videotoaster system with Broadcast Titler II,
and Pro Video CG software. I have more ram (2.5meg) to run the BT2
software. I have found many folks who continue to recognize the value of
hanging on to their A1000's for the same or similar purposes because the CG
module in toaster doesn't perform many title effects they use frequently
(especially typewriter reveals). All things considered the A1000, though
discontinued is still very much alive and well, but memory and hard drives
for it are getting harder to come by. IF you are planning to expand your
video related usage with the Amiga, I would recommend you look at a more
current platform, personally I feel that the A1000 is a terrific bargain at
the moment considering the prices of standalone title systems in the video
market today.

I know someone who is selling a 512K A1000 for $200. If you are
interested, let me know and I'll get the information to him. I have a
monitor that could be used with an A1000 (it has composite, analog, and
digital outputs) that I will part with for $100 + shipping, but I don't
have an Amiga cable for it. (I can probably make one, though.)
Finally, I have an A1300, the CBM genlock for the A1000, that I might part
with. I haven't made my mind up for sure on that, though.
Let me know if you are interested. Chris
Chris, I am interested in your monitor. Could you tell me more about it?
i.e. brand, size, year, etc?

It's a Magnavox 8505. It's the predecessor to the 8762, if you are familiar
with that. I would guess that it is about a 1986 monitor. I think that it
is 13" diagonal.
It has analog, digital, and composite inputs. I have been using it on an
Apple //e with the digital and composite inputs. I have not tried it on
the Amiga. I have the pinouts for the analog connector and I can build a
cable for the Amiga, if necessary.
I don't know what the dot pitch is, but I find it to be just slightly
grainy. Take into account however, that I am used to using a Sony 1311 on
my Amiga. In any case, 80 column text is perfectly readable.
Is there anything else that you would like to know? Chris
Chris, Just tell me roughly how you would compare it to the 1084. And could
you also repeat price, and perhaps let me know costs of shipping etc.?

Dave, I might have just the system you are looking for I have a complete
Amiga 1000 system for sale. The details are as follows:
Ok folks, I have an Amiga 1000 for sale. Let me know if anyone is
interested.
Amiga 1000 – Complete System
Amiga 1000 with 512K
Microbotics StarBoard II with 1 meg (1.5 meg total system memory)
Kronos Hard Drive Controller (Autoboots)
32 Meg RLL drive with Adaptec 4070 (works with Kronos controller)
Commodore 1080 Monitor
IOMega 10+10 Bernoulli Box (2 10 meg platters should work, haven't
tested
it with the new HD drivers)
All the original boxes and docs. Never used in PowerUp program so if
Commodore offers the PowerUp at a later date you can turn in the serial
number. Also may part with my external 1010 3.5" disk drive.
Price: $1000.00
Please reply to me here and let me know if you are interested. Please let
me know if you want this system. I am looking forward to hearing from
you…
Frank, I don't know why you thought I might need a 1000 system, I already
have one!!! I might be interested in the Kronos + 32M Drive. Would you sell
seperately? Where does the Kronos connect? If on the bus, does it have a
pass-thru? Can it support more than one drive, and what kind of drive? I
have a 30M and a 20M IBM style already connected thru the Wdege and a
Western Digital 5150. I might also be interested in the StarBoard II if it
has a pass-thru. Thanx.
Right now I am going to try to sell the system as a unit. If I don't get
any takers then I will let you know. FYI, the StarBoard II has a
passthrough and connects to the Kronos controller. As for the types of
drives the Kronos will take, it will support any MFM or RLL type drive plus
any SCSI drive. For an MFM type drive you would need an Adaptec 4000 and
for the RLL type drives you need an Adaptec 4070. I already have the 4070
that is how I am running the 32 meg drive. I'll have to get back to you if
I want to sell them seperately. What kinda price were you gonna offer?
If you decide to break up the system, I'd be interested in the Starboard
II, and/or the Bernoulli box.
Ok, if I decide to break it up I'll let you know.
This is rather urgent… I JUST noticed that someone mentioned your
Bernoulli Box. I didn't see the earlier message, so I don't know whether
you have this running with your Amiga. I Have been talking with IOMEGA
about whether the Bernoulli can be used this way and they are NO HELP.
If you could shed ANY light on this, PLEASE drop me a note. I'd be happy to
call you voice, or you could call me: (407) 744-0550/744-7756.
Thanks in advance… Victor Oraham
Frank:
If you split up the system, I'd also be interested in the Starboard!
