My Digiview 4.0 Hardware has died! I have an Amiga 3000. The computer has checked out OK. When digitizing the wait requestor just hangs there, somewhat like it did before my old unit was sent to U folks to work with the A3000. It worked for 5 months. What are my options for speedy repair?

Alan, There are 3 things that usually cause problems with the DigiView systems… 1) The 8520 CIA chip is bad. This would cause the DigiView hardware to work on another machine, but not on the machine that is defective. Off hand, I do not remember where the CIA chips are located on the A3000 motherboard, but you can try swapping the two chips and see if that gets rid of the problem. Beware that the 8520 CIA chips are VERY static prone, and items such as printer switch boxes or even removing the DigiView hardware when the computer is on can cause problems with these. 2) The second problem is with software conflicts. This is usually the most rare problem, but if 1 and 3 do not show the problem to be with the A3000 or DigiView hardware, then you should try removing all the items from your startup.sequence. Since the unit has functioned for 5 months, this is most likely not the problem, unless you recently changed something. 3) The last (but not the most common…#1 is most common) problem is that the DigiView hardware is defective. If after trying #1 and #2, you find that the hardware will not work on your A3000 or another Amiga system, call the 800 number at NewTek support. They will make arrangements so you can get a replacement module. The number is valid in Canada and is in the DigiView manual.
