#AutoManager Follow-up
2 messages in this thread
Dear AutoCAD community,
The company bough me a modem + a portable so I can be on line everywhere
now.
Just some things I did in the past y'all might be interested in:
Did you know of the ADGE group? stands for the AutoCAD Developers Group
Europe and this is a VERY interesting group. They are all the big
developers in Europe (Yes we do make software there!) and they come
together twice a year in a seminar. Lasst time was in heidelburg in
Germany. 120 people were there and it was great.
What is interesting that the biggest competitors are workig together there
to create standards! They have created the ADGE standard a discription of
how AutoCAD applications have to behave so they can work inside the same
autocad sessions. It consist of an ADGE.CFG file where every application
has to register and tell what files he has changed, variables which are
used, menu file etc etc. Also there are variable standards and you get can
get a unigue application number so you can claim all kinds of layers,
variables etc.
They are a great bunch of people, very professional and a LOT further in
integrating there work then we in the USA.
I have a couple of pages which I can fax people. If lots of people want it
I will type it in and send it to compusurve.
Europe will for a lot of reason be STRONG, half the founders are there now,
40% of the markt, great developers, eastern Europe.
I went to prague for a 3 days holiday (20 times cheaper then the usa and
VERY charming). On the university of architecture at the CAD lab I found 20
copies of AutoCAD and AutoManager, went I asked for a manual there was a
deep silence…. Automanager after AutoCAD is the most copied program in
the former eastblock. Great honor!
Anyway, got to get my plane. Everybody a GREAT turkey day,
Greetings

Vincent,
Nice to see you on-line again. Since the company blessed you (cursed us?)
with a laptop and modem, are you going to get your own UID again?…<g>
The ADGE.CFG file sounds *great*. If you have time, would you upload the
details for us?
BTW, would you mention to the Code-Cutters that AM needs the File-Run menu
item (like AM-Pro) so we can run AutoCAD from inside AM when we are in an
*empty* directory. I mentioned this to you at CAD Camp, and you said it had
been fixed (of course, you, Booker and self were all drinking). It was
fixed in AM-Pro, but not in AM (unless my copies are *very* old).
Hope things are going well. Happy Turkey Day.
