I have tried to install disk 5 in the new ACAD 11 package without success. The first time I received numerous "file damaged" errors. After having the complete set of disks replaced by the vendor, I first got "file ACAD.MNP damaged". On subsequent retries, I got "syntax error ' was not expected". The only problem I have had is with disk 5, the Sample/Bonus disk. I can't imagine that I have gotten two bad disks in a row, but then I can't think of any other explanation either. Any suggestions? Joe: I'm not sure what is the cause of your continuing problems installing Disk 5, the Sample/Bonus disk. One idea: on this disk there are many, many, small files. A malfunction in the disk cacheing >might< cause problems here that don't show up otherwise. I'd disable all caches and give it another shot. I'd also ask the dealer to provide a set of disks that are >known< good. (i.e. his dealer set or a set that he has installed on his machines first.) Good Luck! Lansing Pugh

Joseph – The sample disk has several library files which must be decompressed by the INSTALL program. It seems very odd that lightening would strike twice — considering that several hundreds of diskettes have passed in the interim. Could be, you know, that the floppy disk drive needs maintenance. I would suggest that you format a floppy in that drive, DISKCOPY your disk 5 to the new floppy, then try running the install again. If that doesn't work, then send a newly formatted disk (from your disk drive) to your dealer and ask them to copy a disk 5 (the files are generic and unserialized) from their dealer copy.

Joe: It's just possible that the read/write heads on your diskette drive are dirty – have you cleaned them in a year or so? – Mark M.
