#ACAD with MSDOS 5.0 ???

Does ACAD run with MSDOS 5.0??? I loaded ACAD onto my 486/33MHz clone with an AMI BIOS with no problems. When I tried to load the nozzle drawing and the shuttle drawing it was VERY, VERY slow. Is there any changes to the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT specific to 5.0??? Thanks for your help!

John, you didn't say, so I'm assuming that you are running ACAD386. If you'll check your Config.sys, I think you'll find that DOS-5 is installing the DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS. The Pharlap v2.2 with AutoCAD is incompatable with the memory produced by HIMEM.SYS. If you need Himem.sys installed, run NEWDX.EXE against ACAD.EXE. This will upgrade Pharlap to v2.6 and ACAD will be happy. If not, simply remove Himem.sys from your Config.sys. ACAD11-386 vC2 comes with NEWDX on the last disk. …If you have v10-386 or the original release of v11, you can download NEWDX from the libraries. I don't know where it's located offhand, but you can browse for it. If you have problems locating it …Holler back. …Bob<G>

John…. May I assume that you also have a line like "DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS" in your config.sys file? If so, you have created a conflict (changing your EXTended memory into XMS memory) which ACAD in its native form can't deal with. The solution is to run the NEWDX program (found on the B1 Step, DXFIX, NEWDX diskette) on your copy of ACAD.EXE. This bumps the Phar Lap DOS Extender up to Rev 2.6… which is compatible with XMS memory. Scooter

Run NEWDX.EXE on the AutoCAD executable. It is supplied with R11 c2 and is available on this forum. Also take a look and DOS5.TXT both in Library 6.
