Bridgeboard/CrossDOS

Has anyone seen any demos or reviews of a new software package advertized
by the people who make CrossDos? This package is supposed to be equivalent
to CrossDos but is software only. The package is called "The Ambassador".
Steve: I was going to ask the same question. But according to what I read
in the ad, "The Ambassador" is not just a new version of CrossDos, but an
entirely new product. For those interested, here are the features:
The Ambassador improves file transfer capability for both the Bridgeboard
and the Amiga in a transparent fashion. The Ambassador is 100% software. No
additional hardware to buy or install.
From the BridgeBoard:
o Directly access the Amiga-connected floppy drives as MS-DOS drives from
within most MS-DOS programs.
o Receive up to a 100 times speed increase when using our version of the
PC
virtual hard drive partitions.
From the Amiga:
o Access MS-DOS formatted media using the same features as our five star
rated product "CrossDos".
o Access Bridgeboard created virtual hard drive partitions (such as
MakeAB and JLink files).
Now if the claimed 100 times speed increase is indeed true, that to me
would be worth the $79.95 asking price! But to be able to use the Amiga
drives from MS-DOS as PC drives would be a big plus, as well as being able
to access PC files from the Amiga side. Sounds like a nice product, and it
does say that an upgrade is available to CrossDOS owners so I will be
calling them first thing Monday morning 8^)

Isn't this what the "Bridge Commander" was supposed to be all about?
I'll be calling on Monday as well.

Well it sounds similar, but I believe the vaporware "Bridge Commander" was
a hardware hack of some type. The Ambassador is entirely software, plus
add's a few more goodies that the Commander didn't have.

I called them already and wwas told that it would be available in January.
I was loooking for any advanced reviews of the product. I am looking
forward to its release too!
John,
Is the Ambassador available now? From Consultron? If not, from whom?
Betty
Looks like your questions have already been answered in the posting from
Michael Gerard. Looks like a pretty nice product!

John:
Do you know if The Ambassador allows access to hard drives on either side?
The ads are unclear about this.

Steven …
To quote the developer, "The ad was a little premature!" It's not ready
yet, but should be in a month or two. It's sort of a combination of
Cross-DOS and JLINK, and does with software more-or-less what the late
unlamented Bridge Drive Commander was supposed. That is, if it happens, but
I think it probably will.

I gather Bridge Drive Commander didn't work? Shucks! I was thinking about
breaking down and buying one….
– Well Whap! Me Silly….
BDC may have worked, but it never showed up in the marketplace.

It sure was advertised for a heck of a long time. I always held off hoping
for a review of it. Guess now I know why I never saw one.
BTW: Do you know of anybody that has sussefully used an IBM version of
AGFA Compugraphic's Intellifonts with PageStream? The manual intimates
that it can be done. (Heck, it says copy 'em from an MS-Dos disk.)
However, the "native" MS-Dos format for Intellifonts is 4 files, not the
one file that Pagestream looks for. I wonder if the ones they use in
Pagestream are ones that were installed for some MS-Dos program. All I can
say for sure is that they aren't the ones for the Laser Jet III, I tried
those too.

Alex…
It never really got finished. The guy had a prototype (he said), but he ran
into production problems. I guess he committed to a lot of advertising up
front.
