amigados filenotes

I love using your file requester. Thanks for putting so much work in to it
and sharing it with the rest of the world.
Here's a request:
I store documents with a filename that is date coded such as:
112591_01.doc
and then use the filenote to describe the contents fo the doc.
In this way I can search for a doc in a directory by date AND description
at the same time. However, to do this, I need to be able to view both the
filename and the comment at the same time. It would be nice if I could
size the FR window wider (which of course I can do now) and then toggle the
display between file size/date/protection bits and file comments. The
filenotes that AmigaDos allows are a great tool, but very few seem to take
advantage of them.
Just a thought.

Michael, that's a good idea.. I'll think about it.
Khalid.
Agreed Michael!
I also think filenotes are an execellent tool. I hope Khalid agrees!
There is NO file requester out there that supports filenotes. I like how
Analyze! supports em: It shows the filename, size and date *UNLESS* there
is a filenote, then it shows the name and filenote. It would be a great
asset for a few applications/orginizations of mine.
ForExample:
On all my downloaded stuff, I describe the file via the filenote. This
works great for stuff I get from CI$ that have only 8 character filenames
which leaves me to listarc them to remember what they really are without
filenotes.
I Use SID (dir util) to list directories showing only filenames and
filenote.
I use ListCom from the CLI to list just the file and comment on a single
line. (C:LIST makes a hard-to-read listing 2 lines per entry when
filenotes are involved.) ListCom v1.3x should be in the libs here
somewhere.
As I get better at C, I will probably improve ListCom. It will be *A LOT*
smaller in a 2.0 only version.

John, With Khalid's file requester, files with comments are indicated with
an asterisk on the right. If you click on the filename and hold the button
down the comment is displayed.

Yeah, that is a REAL NICE feature of Khalids. I (think?) I once asked him
for a button that would toggle between the file info information
(datestamp, etc) and the filenote info (as much as would fit anyway). Would
be a nice little button next to the icon button. But I do like his FR!

Steve:
Indeed, you are right. Khalid's file requester will show the filenote in
the way you explained.
What I need is to see the filenotes to decide what filename to select, not
click on each filename just to read the filenote.

John:
I agree. The old method MSS used in Scibble! and Analyze! is terrific for
detailing a filename with comments and being able to view/select easily.
