Migawd, a PAUSE in my AUTOEXEC just before loading MSCDEX was all it took!?!! MSCDEX — and SONY_CDU — are purring in UMB, and I now have the astounding total of 629,760 bytes free — with just DOS, its memory managers, and one ill-behaved, 864 byte TSR left in conventional memory. Fortunately it worked cuz my 486-33 doesn't have a non-turbo mode. It seemed to prefer the /E switch at the end of the command line, and one time so far it didn't load, but what the heck… I s'pose it should have occurred to me, especially after I discovered that my mouse driver wouldn't run on the new system no way, and I had to replace it. Rick, you're a lifesaver; and you made it worth the connect time too. Thanks *very* much! Kevin

WELLL ALLLLLL RRRIIIIIGGGGGTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!! The thrill of victory versus the agony of defeat! It only took me 3 weeks and a zillion hours to find it out, so I am only too glad to save someone else the time. You're most welcome. I suppose it ought to be posted somewhere as one of those odd facts and maybe microsoft ought to know. ;] Rick

Thanks again! Now if I could just get Sony to cobble the code for LLTSR (the CD TRS to play audio disks in background) so that it would load h high. It obligingly loads a 0.2K kernel high and leaves 27K or so in conventional memory… Maybe Tokyo should logon here occaisionally? But then I wouldn't have anything to grouse about. Regards, Kevin

Rick, I missed the thread, but may I also discover the magic way of loading MSCDEX for my Sony CDU7205W high with QEMM from you? Ivan
