Pagestream fonts

I am using Pagestream 2.21 and am having a problem with font addition.Up
until lately, all I had to do was throw the .afm and .pfb files
into my psfonts drawer, and then update the list in the font manager!
Now, however, I've downloaded some more fonts, put them in the drawer,and
updated the font manager, and it doesn't recognize the new fonts.
Is there a limit on fonts in this file? I've already got 122 fonts in the
drawer, but I didn't think there was a limit. Has anyone else had
this problem? Any help would be apreciated. Thanx.

There is no limit for the number of fonts in one drawer, but you shouldn't
put too many in one drawer just as a matter of good hard drive
housekeeping. Besides, it makes udpates faster and that's why we have a
font manager. Maybe the new fonts are just not converted properly so they
won't work. Try them in a separate drawer.

I beg to differ, but evidently there is a bug or something that
restricts the number of fonts available from one drawer. I had about 120
fonts in 1 drawer and the Font Manager would NOT recognize any more. I
divided everything into 2 drawers, and then the font manager recognized
them fine. I'm having another problem now, however. When I try to
access the Compugraphic fonts now (such as Garamond), the cursor will not
move anymore. It just stays in one spot and piles characters on top of
each other. I don't understand why it is doing this all of a sudden.

This seems to be a recurring problem. I have had this problem many times.
Try deleting the FONTLISTv2 file from the fonts directory. Then, you will
need to go into the Font Manager and add the paths to your font directorys.
I believe this is a serious bug but one that seems to go uncorrected. A
bug as big as this one that is such a pain in the butt to deal with should
be corrected but SL doesn't seem to want to do it. Mark my words, as you
continue to work with PS and the font manager, you will have to do this
again, I'm sure. I've had to do it at least a dozen times.

I have also had to do what you suggest a couple of times but not recently.
I suspect that certain system setup or maybe even the presence of errant
fonts may be necessary for the problem to show up.
Though I have probably been about as "mad at S-L" as anyone, I have to
admit that if they can not duplicate the problem, then there is not much
that can be done.

I know what you mean. Oh, well. Maybe someday in the future we can hope
for a perfect world…

Pagestream has become a mainstay of my productive life (read that as the
main tool for income production). While there are many suggestions and
enhancements that I would like to see, I am quite pleased with its'
general functionality.
I use it to write manuals so I don't do much with fonts as a general rule
and suppose that shields me from many of the problems that others might
see.

Yeah, I suppose that you wouldn't have a great need for the neat fonts. I
am a student and use it for school as well as some other jobs on the side
for friends (reports, resumees, programs for art presentations). I have
had great use for the wide variety of fonts that I have to offer.
Everybody needs a different look. PS is a very good program and with Hot
Links I like it even better. I am trying to save up for Art Expressions.
Hopefully in the future, I will be able to get it as well. PS is
definately the undisputed champion of DTP software on the Amiga. No doubt
about it. This problem is the only thing that really bugs me… not a big
deal though… see ya!
Interesting. I had not thought much about it, but where do a layout work
for other people for varied projects then you undoubtedly have a need for
quite a few different fonts.

If Compugraphic characters are piling up on top of each other, you have not
properly installed the fontss.v2, plugin.typebucket and fontequiv.v2 files.
Ensure the drawer they are in is properly added. If it's added, update the
drawer. This should fix the problem.
I am told by the programmer that there is no limit on the number of fonts
in a drawer except for operating system file limitations, and I'm not sure
if there is a limit for that on the Amiga. I have had far more than 120
fonts in a drawer.

I also had a problem with having hundreds of fonts in one drawer – the
update seemed to jam and never finished. I then created 13 drawers for all
the fonts not supplied with PageStream – fonts A.. & B.., C.. & D.. etc
and updated the whole lot, and this cured the problem.

Thanks for the advice – Several other people told me the same thing
and after I divided the fonts between several drawers everything worked
fine. (This is where Compuserve pays for itself!)

Hummm, another one of those "fixes" that I fell into on my own by
accident. I gathered the font together in seperate drawer just so that I
could manage them better, never thinking that PGS might like it better
that was too.
