Hello out there, 3DS fanatics! Just giving you enough warning to catch the latest broadcast use of 3d Studio – on prime time, no less!! On Wednesday, November 4th, at 8:00 or so (check local listings!), NOVA is doing a special on the building of the Pyramids. Within the first 15 minutes of the show is a full 60 second 3DS animation of the entire Giza plateau as it looked when it was built. With full credits at the end of the show! Some of you may have seen a preliminary render of part of the animation in the 3DS '92 Siggraph demo tape – this is the final result! Brought to you by a Partnership of the Pyros Partnership and the Jerde Partnership Partnership. (From the Department of Redundancy Deaprtment!) Rendered at 756×486 with fields on an AT-Vista to a Sony CRV Laser Disk, copied to Beta SP and bumped up to 1" for editing. Phong/High, texture blur at 1.4 to keep the maps from jumping around on the pyramids and the terrain. AutoReflections on for the water to reflect the clouds as we fly by (yes, there was water near the pyramids when they were built!) Rendered out on 10 486/50 machines to a Sun SparcStation 2 server with 2 gigs of storage here at Pyros Partnership. This announcement is for all of you who abused me when you found out you missed our National Geographic animation last month. No excuses now!! Greg Pyros
