Hello ALL! I've been evesdropping on this forum for several weeks now and would like to introduce myself. I sold some MIDI gear and motorcycles this spring and bought 3DS and Anipro – what great fun! In the daylight I write software (mostly scientific and technical) – at night I'm transformed into a Raving Rendering Rogue. Thanks to encouragement by the unsuspecting Alec Jason, I'm now running the 486/66 DX2 (Gateway, $695 – note: easy to extract the old chip with Intel's kit – very difficult to insert the new chip – DO NOT overflex the motherboard while inserting). Typical improvement: 54 seconds vs 93 seconds for rendering a single frame! Several people seem to be having hardware/software compatibility problems. For the curious, the system I'm using (for 8-bit output) works well with a wide variety of software without reconfiguring and rebooting for anything: Gateway 486/33 EISA, 16 meg ram, Adaptec 1740 SCSI with two 535 meg drives, Pro Audio Spectrum 16 with NEC-84 CDROM on the PAS SCSI, three COM ports (mouse, Sumagraphics, fax/modem), Telepath fax/modem card, HP scanjet, Archive tape backup, Diamond Speedstar VGA and the Magni VGA producer pro. I mention all this because I've spent a great deal of time sorting out DMA, IRQ, and memory conflicts and if anyone is having problems with similar hardware, I might be able to help. I'm new to Compuserve, trying to learn the ropes, and I appreciate all the expertise and enthusiasm here. I'll attempt to upload my MATHDXF program (see separate message), just to say thanks! JKJ P.S. I also like pianos, airplanes, good ol' Baptist preaching, and the Great Smoky Mountians this time of the year!

John, Motorcycles and MIDI gear for animation software, eh? It sounds like you're settling down! <g> Thanks for the offer to help out with solving hardware problems. That kind of stuff is always a nightmare, and having another head around to wack on the problem is truly a gift. MUCHO APPRECIADO. I also appreciate your attempt to upload your math function program. Space in the DL's periodically needs to be re-allocated, so just check again tomorrow (and if necessary, the next day), and I'm sure you'll find some (eventually). Take care, – G
