I nedd to do screen captures of the 3ds2 and AniPro screens for a tutorial
we are making. I an using a postscript laser and Wordperfect for windows or
dos. we also have on hand Pagemaker- CorelDraw- and VgaCap. have tried
capturing images and then using grays only in AniPro to spif up the
contrast. But I am definitely no expert, (in fact my elementary teacher
told me I just didn't take spelling seriously enough and would never
lerarn to spell <g>). Guess she was coorrecct <g>.
How do you do graphics for the manual the IPAS catalog? They have nice
contrast and show the detail needed. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure Jack or Martin will be logging in by tomorrow morning. Regarding
your second question… the graphics in the IPAS brochure were created by
rendering monochrome .tif files from 3DS. The little ones were all
640×480, and the cover was about 1100×1400. Martin used the CLAMP.IXP
utility from Disk #2 to keep the contrast levels from going to either the
dark or light extreme… that ixp is very useful when dealing with print
applications.

Hi Pat. The screen shots in the 3ds manual were captured with PixelPop,
converted to grayscale TIFF format, sent to a Sun SPARC station, and then
converted to .rf format for FrameMaker (the publishing software we use).
However, only the screen shots were captures. Most of the dialog-box
illustrations were done will illustration software. In general, most of the
illustrations in the tutorials are screen snapshots.
We also changed the interface color parameters in the 3ds.set file before
capturing the screens. For best results, create a grayscale test image and
run it through your complete print cycle. Then design a grayscale palette
for the 3ds interface that will provide the best contrast between the
various interface elements. (As I recall, it was almost impossible to
actually _use_ 3ds with the grayscale interface, but the visual results
were better than when we captured the standard color screen and converted
it to grayscale.)

Pat, We used a program called "collage" for the screen captures we did for
"Using AutoCAD r12" from QUE. The Collage program captures screens to 24Bit
Targas, which you can really fine tune with a program like PhotoStyler. Our
screen captures from ACAD12 and 3DSr2 came out great! I'll try to did up
thier phone number and email it to you.
