PAR Output

My completely personal and biased opinion of the DPS PAR board: Is it
"broadcast quality?" Yeesh, we should ban those words! The technical quality
of the signal, as viewed on a 'scope, is very, very, clean, and the levels, if
you are rendering properly, are just where they should be. In this aspect, it
is very much broadcast quality. The quality of the *image* from the board is,
in my opinion, surprisingly good for a motion JPEG source. In brief, my
animations look very nice going to BetaSP via the component out. Does it match
D1 or a _good_ single-frame to Beta setup? No. If you want to find artifacts
in the image, they exist. But—
In a practical sense, for my market (primarily high-end corporate work, if
that's not a contradiction in terms) if anyone is going to notice the
difference, then you either a) have an animation that's so bad and boring there
isn't anything else to watch, or b) have the legendary client from hell. Okay,
not really: if your client needs D1 quality, you'd better be able to give it to
them! Toward these ends, the solution I'm working on is finding a post house
that can take a DAT backup of my files and write them to an Abekas or Accom
DDR. So, when I finally land that national 0:29, I'll be ready for it!
Alleviating problem "a" is up to you! >G<R
