Dear Mike, Let me tell you my difficulty openly and squarely: I bought Superbase Prof 4 last Jan. for $329. Unfortunately, I had to pay an equivalent amount as customs tax over here! Now, having bought this software for over $660, I have to make as much use of it as possible. I was doing that when my hard disk suddenly went dead. I had backups of my data, thank God. I had only installed it on my hard disk with no floppy installation. I am trying to do that with no success. I tried various schemes with no luck. The Setup program says everything is OK, but WB cannot open the file. I tried to put the file Superbase.ini under s directory, but that file is nowhere in sight. I do not think I am keying my name or my city faultily. Apparently something is wrong somewhere and I am sitting here empty handed. This is a time where I need your companys' support definitely and urgently. Looking forward for your much needed help! (Serial #: 10C00228 v 1.0 and 10C46209 v 1.01). Thank you.(My fax #: +90-4-212 45 36). Dr.Ilbeyi Agabeyoglu, 100037,172.

Ilbeyi, You are not alone, I also have this problem and OXXI have not even bothered to reply to my message left in this forum. I get the feeling that they have no idea what the problem is…….. Andrew.

Andrew, I do not recall talking to you… The problem that Ilbeyi is referring to is a very tricky one. Here at Oxxi we have 8 Amiga's, each configured differently. We have Amiga 500's, Amiga 2000's, Amiga 2500's, Amiga 2500's with '030 accelerators, Amiga 3000's, and we will have an Amiga 4000 shortly. Having tested SBase4 V1.2 on each machine I can say that SBase4 is a stable program. I have reports from maybe 15-20 people indicating that SBase4 seems to load then do nothing, which is the problem that Ilbeyi is reporting. I have not been able to duplicate the problem on any of our machines. I am not saying that a problem does not exists. What I am saying is that something must be different on your machine. I am trying every conceivable combination of posibilities… Maybe the versions of the librarys, maybe the version of the OS, maybe the printer device, maybe the printer options, I have looked into them all… What then is the problem? I cannot answer you at this time. What I want you to understand is that there is someone at Oxxi who has an idea of what the problem is, but it is only an idea. I expect to be able to solve this within the next week. Thank you, Mike Uman []xxi, Inc. >>> running under AutoPilot

Mike, I left a message in this forum detailing our problem. We originally had 3 copies of SB Pro4 bought from Precision UK. On upgrading to 1.2 we have installed the program on three of our A3000's. The program runs perfectly on 2 of the machines but will NOT run on the third. I have also tried everything I can think of, comparing libs: c: l: devs: etc.. and I am pretty confident that 2 of the machines are virtual duplicates of each other, but still we have no joy. The interesting thing is that this errant third machine will run SBPro 1.0 without any problem at all ! I hope you come up with a cure as this problem can only get worse as more people upgrade. If you would like us to try anything or send you a complete directory listing from the unlucky machine just shout. My other problem which I cannot get resolved is the SET PG command for setting the number of lines printed on the PREFS printer. However I use this command it always returns an 'invalid text parameter' error. This is a real problem for landscape reports. At the moment I have to do an EJECT 26 to get the right number of lines printed per page, the downside of this is that every other page is blank. I was told that 1.2 fixed this problem but I am afraid it dosn't. I would really appreciate some help with this one ! Thanks, Andrew. p.s. I never inferred that SBPro wasn't stable, its perfectly stable, it just won't run on some machines…. :^)

Andrew, This is not a reply to your message, but something that a friend of mine found that might help with installing SB4. He followed the instructions that came with the program last friday. He never got the program to work. It would go through the loading process and then die! We used "snoopdos" on it over the weekend and everything looked OK. Today the program runs. What my friend did was to go to a file in the S: dir called SB4.ini and change a line from "SCREEN = 0" to "SCREEN = 1". He also took 10 lines of blanks out between this line and the control M that should end it. You or anybody that has had problems might want it gives this file a look-see. -Tom
