#IPAS Fractilize
10 messages in this thread
Can we reliably take it that FRACTL.GIF was produced (with the addition, of
course, of all those lovely Disk #1 filter effects) with the silicon garden
disk #5. If so, just how difficult is it to produce those mountains (or,
to put it another way, how difficult would it be for the average graphics
klutz like myself find it?). Are the textures of the mountains included,
and how are they mapped, etc.?
I only ask because there doesn't appear to be a separate file explanation
of this, like the brochure promises, and the fractilize would be the main
reason for me buying the silicon garden (sorry, guys, just not into trees).

Ooops. I forgot to include more info about Fractalize. Thanks for
pointing that out.
The Fractl.gif geometry and textures were produced entirely with Silicon
Garden tools. As the brochure says, it comes with the Terra Materials
Library, which contains over a hundred materials, and dozens of texture
maps, including a number of ground/surface maps, like the one on the
mountain in fractal.gif. By the way, it took me about 2 minutes to produce
the mesh in that image. Fractalize is extremely fast, fun, and easy to use.
(it's the fractalizing program _I've_ always wanted to use) Finally, the
mapping coordinates are layed down by Fractalize when you build the
geometry, so you don't have to worry about mapping them manually.

PS: The spiral in the "sky" is also made with SG's fractal spiral tools,
and the glows and flare are done with the image processing tools from Disk
#1.
Then I've bought it, along with Disk 1 and I guess disk 4 as well (I may
need to blow SOMETHING up at some point in my life).
Once again the great gods have struck. Now if you were only shipping so I
could have this stuff by next weekend…
Good news… we're shipping product starting tomorrow/Tuesday. Of course,
it's FIFO, so the first orders are going out… first! But I'll guarantee
you that we'll be caught up by the weekend. Worst case is that you'll get
it at the beginning of next week.
– G
Glad to hear its FIFO! and you know why!
You're number one! You're number one! You're number one!
– G
do I win a prize?
hehe… Stick around and wait for UPS. Scot tells me that your order went
out blue label, so you should actually be getting it Thursday.
– G
Yea, yea! So, I was cheap and had them come blue instead of red label! I
won't be in the office Wednesday, I'm going up to LA to take Tom Jaggers
out to lunch to celebrate – We won a Second Place animation in the CADDIES
for the Pentel Pen commercial, and Tom & I together won a Third Place for
the Egyptian Sphinx! So I'll get my IPAS on Thursday…

Greg:
Good for you! Too bad you didn't know I was a judge – you could have
bribed me <g>
(Actually, I gave you high marks anyway.)
