#NEC-84 for $395 saga…

I took a look at my JD catalog as per your suggestion. I found the NEC
card there, a Trantor parallel to SCSI as well as several Future Domains.
I'll have to call them to see what the exact manufacturer model #'s is on
the NEC since they only list the item as a JDR part #.

I am going to use my NEC CDR-84 plus whatever SCSI card I get to talk to
Microsoft's NT Beta CD-ROM. They've published a specific list of SCSI
controller's that work with NT and Trantor is not on it which is
unfortunate as their cards are the lowest priced I've seen to date.
About the SB-Pro. Apparently, (I was told in two forums here) it uses a
proprietary CD-ROM interface rather than a standard SCSI interface. It
will talk to a Mitsumi CD-ROM drive but it isn't usable for the NT work I
want to do. Bummer. That would have been the easiest.

Dennis — I suggest you give Trantro a call — I "suspect" that they are
the oem on the NEC cards. I do know that Trantro is responsible for the
upgrades that NEC is offering on some of their older cdrom drives. (Ah yes
— good ole Trantro — please read TRANTOR in the above <g>)

That's right it's not SCSI.
The Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and Pro Audio Spectrum Plus have a SCSI
interface. I have owned both and would NOT recomend either.
All right! I was skeptical of those two boards and it sounds like my
intuition was right.

Not that I want to start a "beat on Mediavision" war, but why? What did
you get instead? Was it the SCSI connection you did not like, or the
Sound?
