I have a Mac Powerbook 100 and wanted a CDROM. I saw the ad in the
MacWarehouse catalog for a SCSI for $299. No specs in the catalog, so I
called. I was told that the drive was based on a Panasonic mechanism with
a 32K buffer, 150k/sec rate, and a 380ms average seek time. Sounded like a
good enough drive for me. Well I got it, however the manual specs for the
drive (an RTM model CR-501-T) were as stated except for the seek time. The
manual states a 500ms average seek time. I guess there is not all that
much difference between 380 and 500, but is there anyone out there who
knows the real seek time? Is it easy to get it checked or is there special
disks and equipment needed? I think I'll take it to work so I can see the
impact on quick-time movies (my PB100 won't do quick-time). Thanks…new
