#Need Hard Disk Utils

Although I have been using IBM clones for years, I have only recently
started to use an Amiga 2000. I am using the unit as a platform for the
Video Toaster and related graphics and editing programs. As I have found
the Norton Utilities to be invaluable in the PC world, I am looking for
something comparable for the Amiga. The utilities I'm most interested in
are a hard-disk defragger, and a "disk doctor" like SpinRite. I realize
that this will probably have to be a commercial app. but if anyone knows
good shareware, or public domain programs, I would consider them as well.

There are a new group of disk utilities just released called Ami-Back
Tools, and another that's been out for a while but haven't been updated
recently called Quarterback Tools. I have the QBTools and have found them
useful, but you have to make sure your drives are backed up before
applying the defragging procedure on them. It seems some users have
complained of QBTools lousing up their drives. I spoke to the author of
Ami-Back Tools at the Pasadena WOA and it sounds like his product is going
to be more stable. His company is called Moonlighter Software Development
and his other product is called Ami-Back which is an excellent Hard drive
backup program with auto-scheduler. It uses any device suchas Tape,
removable hard disk media, or floppies to back up your drives.

Most Amiga's use SCSI hard disk drives rather than the ST-506 type. I've
never seen a SpinRite type program for SCSI drives.

I would recommend "Quarterback Tools" by Central Coast Software, a
division of New Horizons Software. Both vendors have a presence in the
AmigaVendor Forum. You can get more information there.
