Printing Problem

I am having a problem with my printer. When I try to print I get the
following error message:
Error in writing – Error 1
Can anyone tell me what this error means?
I have an Amiga 2000HD with A2630 and I'm running dos 2.04. I'm trying to
print to a Laserjet III. My setup was working until lightening blew my
CIA chips which I've finally replaced. Everything else seems to work
except for printing.

You sure the printer itself is still working ok…that it didn't
get "eaten" by the lightning also?
That error sounds like it's coming from the software you're
running, not from the Amiga itself. Try copying a file directly to the
parallel port via the following:
copy <filename> PAR:
Note the colon here^ It's needed.

I don't think the printer got zapped by the lightening but I'm not sure.
I was able to shift the cable from by Amiga to a toshiba laptop and print
a word for windows document with no problems.
I got the error doing a copy <filename> prt: I tried your suggestion of
copying to par:. The busy light comes on but nothing prints until I do a
manual form feed or copy to par: a second time. Either way only one line
prints. Is this what's suppose to happen?

No, that's not what is supposed to happen. It sounds like you've
got flow control problems. It's possible the 8520 that was installed was
defective, or become defective during/after the installation. They are
VERY static sensitive. It's also possible, some traces on the motherboard
also got zapped.
I'd say it's time for a trip to the repair shop.

Don, Well, thanks anyway Don. I was afraid I'd have to take it into the
repair shop but I thought I'd check here first just in case it was
something simple.
