Joel, I need some information on Photo-CD. I have a Future Domain FD-1680
SCSI Controller and a NEC-84. The Future Domain driver is 2.20 I also have
MSCDEX 2.21. I intend to read single sessions from my NEC-84 through
Corel's Mosiac ( Corel Draw 3.0b ). My local Kodak contact said the
hardware should be OK but did not know what Future Domain CD driver
software I needed. Do you know what cd driver version I need ? Also I have
seen that at least one guy can read a Kodak CD from OS/2 ( it took him alot
of experimentation ). Can you also tell me what I need to get Kodak CD
access through OS/2 2.0 ( i use CDROMGA.SYS as my driver ). At present I
can access the NEC-84 just fine under DOS & OS/2 2.0. Thanks in advance

Doug, I noticed your message requesting assistance. I just installed a NEC
84 SCSI but no music will play thru my Sound Blaster Pro with speakers.
Even the SB program will not play music. However, I do get sound using
other cd-rom, such as Microsoft Bookshelf.
Can you help?

Robert, this advice is worth what it was paid for. In DOS ( I assume that
is the environemnt you are talking about ) the SB must be attached to the
NEC-84 by an internal or external connection. You would most likely have to
have a the internal connection made for you ( I think the SB takes a four
pin connection and the NEC a three pin ). I use the head phone jack from
the NEC to the line in of the SB. A friend said he tried to get a cable
made and the tech said a connection like that would void warrenties so be
warned. I do not know what to say about MS-Bookshelf it is not clear is you
get sound from the NEC to the SB speakers on that one only ? At present in
DOS I get sound from the SB and NEC seperately ( when not cable attached ).
In OS/2 I get no sound from the NEC except with but can access the drive in
all instances just fine. The SB works in an OS2 Dos Box great. I know there
are OS2 SB drivers but I have no OS2 programs to put them to use so have
not bothered. I hope this helped. If it did not then I need more
information on what you want to do, what is your system configuration
including Op System. Does the SB work great except when sound comes from
the NEC ? … etc. Doug Vaughan
Doug, I have a 486 SCSI device. Sound Balster was just fine. But when I
added the NEC-84, I get no sound from music cds. I use the windows 3.1
envirnment. Howver, there is no CD sound in Dos either.I have an Adaptec
ASPI CD ROM device installed for the CD-Rom,
Robert, I had no problem with my configuration but I had used headphones to
listen to the music cds through the MEC-84 headphone jack. There is also a
volume control on both the SB and NEC. I have a friend with an Adaptec and
NEC-84, he uses the Corel ASPI drivers and he has no problems. He used the
Corel drivers because they worked for OS/2 and I think DOS with MS-Windows.
Have you tried checking for IRQ conflicts ? I seem to remember that my
friend had problems when he 1st used the Adaptec and even after he got the
Corel drivers, but he worked that out with the tech support for Adaptec and
Corel. My best suggestion would to be call tech support of the Adaptec.
