According to Creative Labs, you are better off with their CD drive to go
with the SB Pro, because you wouldn't need a controller card, and the
DMA/IRQ is already set for compatibility. If you get another CD drive, it
will need its own controller, and then you still need to get the audio
connection to the sb pro, which may or may not require you to get a special
cable. I must say I am confused. I do know the CL CD rom upgrade kit
includes 4 cds, MS bookshelf, sherlock holmes, windows 3.1 and a disk with
a lot of sounds. Should be able to find for $369.
Well, I never heard of any problems getting another brand CDROM to work
with the SBPro, but they are certainly right. The CL drive is made for it,
so the installation is a snap. And there are 3 different kits that Ive
seen. One without the Pro and two with it. The two with the Pro come with
different software, the one without the Pro comes with the same software as
the more expensive one that includes the Pro (whew – that was a tough
sentence!). Im not sure if that made sense, but I know what I mean <g>.
