I work for a large electrical utility which is interested in aquiring an aquatic dispersion model in order to plot and predict the movement of spills of contaminants into large bodies of water. Currently, we use a model which is solely based on wind-driven surface currents. This model gives a depth-averaged 2-D plot and does not account for such factors as whole-lake gyres, baroclinic effects resulting from thermoclines and thermal bars, subsurface return currents and cooling/increasing density of a spill with time. Is anyone aware of a model which DOES account for part or all of such factors in order to give a 3-D crudely accurate output? Jim Patterson
