The Gulf Coat of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and northern Florida is very
similar to the environment that formed the Pennsylvaniian and Mesozoic caol
fields in the United States. The coastal swamps of the Carolinas and Georgia
are similar. Jon W. already mentioned the peat bogs fo the Brithish Islands.
Oil occurs in Pliestocene sediments in the Gulf of Mexico, and shows
charateristics consitant with formation less than 15,000 years ago.
