DJ 550C driver

I just downloaded your update to the DJ550C printer driver… I will let
you know the results!
Pat,
I'm probably going to buy a 550C; how did your tests with the new
printer-driver go?
Karl
Ok, we just made a few more tests this weekend with the DJ550C driver for
Pagestream and our results are… bad! 🙁 It now prints the right colors
but it looks like that there is to much black ink printed… Also, when
printing large pictures (say 8 inches wide) some colors are missing on the
last 2 inches with some printing (not constant) At first I was thinking it
was a printer trouble but after having these problems with the Pagestream
Driver I went back ton printing with ADPro with no problems but I was
using the DJ500 driver. It looks like that Soft Logic have to get there
hands on a DJ 550C to improve the driver! If they can't I will send them
my outputs.
Pat
I went ahead and bought the 550C and was hoping you'd had a big
breakthrough! <grin> I know these things are not trivial; it's just nice
to know someone's trying. It looks like the 500C driver never went beyond
the first pass.
I'm not familiar with how PageStream talks to printers. Does it bypass
Preferences? When you say you're working on a driver for Pagestream, does
that mean non-Pagestream owners like me can use the result of your efforts
for everything else?
I've had trouble with the paper-feeding, but I also don't have a nice
new stack of laser paper to put in it yet. Have you had any trouble with
the printer feeding multiple sheets? Are you using clay-based paper for
the color output? I understand that I must use paper with low cotton
content for regular text printing to reduce bleed. What are you using?
Thanks, and good luck!
Karl
PageStream allows you to choose between the preference drivers and the
PageStream's own driver. If you wish to use the black cartridge of your
DJ550C for color printing you will need to use either the DJ550 driver for
Pagestream (Beta version) or a preference (not yet available from
Commodore) for the DJ 550C. IF you don't have any of these printer
drivers you may still use the DJ500C printer driver but you will be
surprised to see how the printer makes the black colors! 🙂
Regarding feeding problems… try a different kind of paper.
So the only 550C driver available right now is used within Pagestream? I
think that's what you meant. If I don't have Pagestream, I'll have to wait
until SOMEone writes a Preference driver, eh? Aaaarrrggggghh!
Paper-feeding problem went away when I used the same kind of paper in a
neat stack. Bleed problem went away when I used plain old copier paper.
Looks great for an inkjet: plenty good for my needs. Sure wish I could get
black in color prints, though. <sigh>

The Super_DJC driver from Creative Focus works pretty well with the 550C,
although it was intended for the 500C and doesn't take advantage of some
of the 550's features. They are, however, working on a 550C version.

Jim,
Who is Creative Focus, and am I likely to know about it when they
finish a 550C driver?
One thing I haven't figured out is how to lighten the pictures sent to
the printer. I can do it through ADPro by increasing brightness/gamma, but
there's supposed to be a DJ 550C command that sets intensity. I don't see
any Preferences setting for this (for use with DPaint) and I believe that
ADPro bypasses most of the Preferences settings anyway.
Thanks for the reply,
Karl
We have a 550C printer on order from HP, and intend on improving our driver
when we receive it.
Michael Soft-Logik
Michael, would this driver of yours be a Preferences driver? Hope you get
your printer soon. I really like mine, but I'm anxious to see what it can
REALLY do!
Karl
No, our 550C driver will be only for PageStream. We don't write drivers for
preferences.

I think it is a one-man company, listed, I'm sure, in AC's Guide. I don't
know if they (he) have anything other than DeskJet-related printer drivers
and related programs.
They don't advertise much. If I find out about (or get) a 550C driver,
I'll post a note here.

Jim,
Thanks for the heads-up on the 550C driver. I hope one shows up soon.
