#Can't Install ACCESS

I am trying to install the Access software from its PhotoCD from Kodak. I
have an Adaptec 1542B SCSI, NEC CDR-74 and am using CORELSCSI, with the XA
parameter at the end. I can read the directories on the disc. When I run
SETUP I get a message to the effect of not enough memory, close some
windows apps and try again. I have 16 MB ram, 16 mb perm swap file, 83 %
system resources free. I am able to manually expand the files from the
photocd onto my hard disk. I tried putting the DLLs both in my WIndows
directory and in the access directory, but when I try to run any of the
programs I get an immediate GPF. Any ideas how to get Setup to run? Or
else, can you tell me what else I have to do in my manual setup, such as
putting something in my WIN.INI?

I'm going through the same trouble. After talking to Kodak, they said that
NEC has made some change on the drive and that Kodak's testing was with the
newer drives. Kodak had me call NEC for some upgrade kit. I've left a msg
with NEC and am awaiting the kit. Supposedly the older version of the
drive resulted in "out of memory" messages like you and I got.

I use a Mac, and it is plug-and-play with the AppleCD 150 (and older
AppleCD SC+). I don't have any experience with DOS/Windows CD-ROM systems.

I had the same problem on my CDR-74 weeks ago and talked to a bunch of
people before I got some answers. Your drive is setup correctly and should
be able to read the sample photos included with the software (as well as any
other single session photo disk).
The "out of memory" error is a totally bogus message caused because currently
the CDR-74 is not reading the Kodak disk correctly. The Access software is
stored on the CD in a different format than normal and any drive not 100%
cannot run the setup program.
I personally have the NEC SCSI and Trantor drivers and was told it would be
a while (late 1992) before the problem was fixed. Until my drivers are
updated I get the same "out of memory" when I try the setup program. Kodak
would only say that CDR-74 was not totally compatible as of yet.
As you are using Corel SCSI drivers I don't know what your current driver
status is. I was told by NEC that they were going to setup some kind of
firmware upgrade path to also make the CDR-74 multi-session compatible.

Jay,
I am using the CorelSCSI drivers w/my CDR-74. What I don't understand is
that I seem to be able to copy files from the PhotoCD fine. I call NEC
about once every week or two but there is no real information yet on a
multisession upgrade for the drive.
