Hi!
Would any of you folks be interested in a "Computer Video Professional
Association"?
Basically it would be a non-profit professional association with reasonable
membership dues, providing the usual association stuff (group health
insurance program for you self-employed types, etc) along with acting as a
"clearing house" (no, NOT Publishers' Clearinghouse!) for all us folk out
here that are available for doing freelance video/graphics work… (and ,
of course, a BBS <g>).
Sound interesting? Let me know… no obligation for your comments, of
course…

Although I don't know if I actually relish the thought of all of the work

If it looks good, consider uploading a frame or two from the final piece
to the 24bit area in AmgaArts. I'm sure we'd all take a look (esp. if you
JPEG it first, so it's a tiny file :^)

btw, one man's "resonable" is often another man's "rediculous"…
What would YOU consider "reasonable" due for a professional association
membership that got you group health care eligibilty, listing in a
profdirectory, regular newsletter, BBS, etc. etc. etc….??

Well, given my current income, 'ridiculous' would be over $100.
$50 would be reasonable. (of course, you may feel otherwise :^)

As a 'Benchmark" you miht look at IEEE dues of $127. BUt that includes
two magazines – main IEEE maga and a sub-society mag too. Insurance
costs extra.

The International Television Association (ITVA) may be an existing
alternative. It's focus is non-broadcast/industrial video. It's membership
includes in-house corporate, educational, medical, etc., AV depts, as well
as freelance/commercial producers, directors, editors, graphics artists,
lighters, etc.
It does not focus on *computer* video specifically, but on industrial
business video in general. But, as we all know, video is going digital,
period. So computer technology has been the hottest topic for months. If
nothing else, it's a great resource for people trying to make money at
video.

A current group doing this is the Amiga Video Association (AVA). The AVA
is a non-profit organazation dedicated to supporting video profesionals,
using the Amiga in video production.
I have posted the press release on the AVA, that will tell you basicly
what it is about and what it offers. The AVA is currently in the process
of trying to form other chapters, in diferent areas of US.
If you are interested in becoming a member, or starting a chapter in
your are please contact me, and I will pass information along to you.
A national organazation like this is needed to share information between
the users, and this group already has support from CBM, NewTek, JVC,
Panasonic, and others.
Again if you feel like contributing time to get a chapter going in your
are it is well woth the time in the knowledge you will gain and the
support you will receive. For those wishing to become members, the dues
are $50 a year, and you will receive a newsletter, and if you are in the
Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area you will also have monthly meetings that are
held at the Dallas, Infomart.
If anyone has any suggestions for the AVA, or comments please let me know,
we want this thing to have a great national network of DTV users.
