#Video Tape Rendering
4 messages in this thread
We have recently put a system in place that renders to tape. We have
purchased on SONY EVO-9650 8mm tape deck, which I believe is available in a
PAL version. This is a new generation of software controllable VCRs that
is on the market. If you have the money, you can also purchase laser disc
recorders by SONY, PANASONIC and TEAC. You then need the software to
drive the video machine, which is available from DIAQUEST (DQ-232
software). Their phone number is 510-526-7167, or you may have a local
dealer. As well, you will need a video frame grabber that is supported by
the DIAQUEST software (Truevision Targa or ATVista, Matrox Illuminator-16).
The TARGA board supports PAL for sure, not sure about the MATROX. 3D
Studio is then able to render to tape directly in the keyframer, as well
from series of files. This is generally preferrable to flics. However if
you are using Animator Pro, you received a utility called FLITAPE.EXE that
uses the Diaquest driver to output .FLI files to tape. There are lots of
combinations of hardware and software available, but this is a setup that
works for sure.
Yes, a PAL version of the Illuminator is available. Or at least it used to
be.
Larry, have you experimented with the new Illuminator Pro on a Compaq
486/33L? We have gotten a couple in the department here, but I have been
unable to get it to work in my Compaq. I was able to get it to work in my
ALR at home though. I have talked to Matrox quite a bit and they couldn't
figure out what was wrong.
I have taken everything out of the machine, ie network, CD-ROM card, sound
card and still no luck. I am using a Video 7 VRAM II with it. Should I
maybe try and take that out and use the onboard VGA?
Thanks

Well, not exactly. I did try an Illuminator 16 in a 33L over a year ago and
it did work, at least untill the Matrox board died. Then we had a warranty
argument and I never got the board fixed, they wouldn't replace it, only
repair it. So I got a Targa and have used that since with no problems.
