I need a copy of the HDToolBox directory that is found on new 2000HDs. I
had to reformat my machine at one point, and discovered later that this
program was not included with my system software disks. I now need this
program to set up a new hard disk. Would anyone be willing to upload it to
me?

We can't upload HDToolBox. It's copyrighted software by Commodore
and they have not given us permission to distribute it (or given anyone
else permission for that fact..other than authorized dealers that is).
HDToolBox is on the 2.04 Install disk, in the Tools drawer. That
presumes you're using 2.04. If you're using an earlier version of
AmigaDOS, then HDToolBox can be found on the install disk for your drive
controller software.

O.K. thanks. I have version 1.3. I have a 2090 controller manual with a
2091 controller, unusabale reinstall software designed for the 2090 and no
HDToolBox on my system disks. I can't believe anyone would do that to a
customer. I called Commodore, but they know nothing about it and won't do
anything about it. Great.

Commodore always sticks those cards in its packages saying you can buy
replacement disks when one goes back. Did you ask about that?
No. If I had them I don't have them now anyway. It wasn't bad it was the
wrong disk to begin with.

If you own a Commodore hard drive controller, there's nothing illegal
about you getting a copy of HDToolBox from someone. I don't know why
people are talking about dealers SELLING you the disk–they can rightfully
make you a copy, as can any Amiga user. It's just not possible to transfer
the file electronically over CIS, due to copyright restrictions.
Anyway, one possible solution is to download Microbotics RDPrep, if
they've finished the freely-distributable version. (I know Redmond said
they'd be releasing it, but I didn't notice if they did or not.) RDPrep
works fine on the Commodore HD controller. Check the Microbotics
conference over in AmigaVendor and see if it's available for download
there.

How about your local dealer, they should be able to help you. BTW,
I can believe that dealers (SOME dealers, NOT all dealers) would do that.
It's not at all uncommon for certain dealers to pull parts from new
machines and then sell them separately. For example, a customer may order
a 2500 but want a bigger drive in it, or different drive controller/host
adapter card in it. The dealer will pull the Commodore part and substitute
some other part…then sell off the Commodore part to another customer.
I see nothing wrong with this practice as long as the dealer tells
the customer what they've done.

Well, I bought it Mail Order, so I don't know what they did. Pehaps they
did put different pieces together.

Have you considered upgrading to 2.04? Perfectly feasible on a 2000.
