I'm considering the Sony EVO-9700 – I have a toaster and would love to
avoid S-vhs. Anybody out here in toasterland have any experience with it?
If so, pitfalls, pluses? I would greatly appreciate ANY input. Thanks mike
Great little machine. Only drawback is just one pcm audio channel for
insert editing, thus a major problem in audio editing since the afm goes
down and comes off with video. You could potentially work around it with a
sunrise (rize) card, but I don't thik you can get the time code out of the
9700 to lock to. Anyway, good for the money, but if you have more,
consider a pair of the new EVO9850. You wont believe it's Hi8. Looks like
betacam with drop out comp, noise reduction, etc AND two editable pcm
tracks pluce SMPTE TC in and out. A bit pricey at about $5K each, but
definitely worth it. I'm waiting to see the non-linear JPEG boards like
digital editmaster. POSSIBLY good enough to edit with…just need one deck
then.
