#Printing in ProCalc

Is there a way to get a 8.5 X 14 PS printout from ProCalc WITH the
decinal point & $ sign? Is there an inherent problem with spreadsheet
printing? I have yet to find a program that will print with ease and
look good. So far I have used 2 reams of paper trying different
settings, both in programs and in HP4m printer.
I don't want to be adamp squib but I had exactly the same problems
with ProCalc and printing. Headaches and more headaches. In the end I
sold ProCalc, got a 386sx board and Excel 4.0A. Now that is a SERIOUS
spreadsheet. Printing via Windows is a joy to behold. Magic, but an
expensive way of getting decent print.
I really don't need a SERIOUS preadsheet ;^}…just one that will
print!!!! I don't wan't to work out the national budget, just a small
portfolio and a friend's small business. I wonder what is the big
printing problem with the Amiga & Gold Disk….Grrrrrr?

You will have nothing but problems printing from ProCalc. I've been
trying for about a year now. It's someting they realy have to sort
out if thay want ProCalc to become success.

That may be true, grrrrr. I'll just add my letter to the many I'm sure GD
has received. On the other hand ProCalc is in some ways easier to use on
an Amiga then the PS style spreadsheets I have been using.

Gold Disk has been receiving that message (and others regrading Pro Calc)
since its first release over a year ago. Their standard answer is "bring
it into Pro Page and format it like you want". Basically they are telling
all of us that put good money in to to stuff it where the sun don't shine
cause they got our dough and thats all that matters.
I finally had it with Gold Disk. I didn't do the 4.0 upgrade and this
weekend I deinstalled all the Gold Disk products from my system – Pro
Page, Pro Calc, Desktop Budget, Pro Draw. They've all been replaced by
other vendor's products.

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment (or lazy). Maybe I like Ppage because
I know it after years of use. I'm waiting for PageStream3.0 to see if it's
better.
It really doesn't make sense they can't get their act together with
ProCalc's printing (I still haven't been able to import PCalc into Ppage.)
There really is no alterative for an Amiga spreadsheet. SuperPlan is a
SuperPain & also has big printing problem. What do you use now?

The spreadsheet thng will rectify itself, I believe, before you see a
resolution to the ProCalc output problem. DTP-wise, I bit the bullet and
gave up my feelings of security to move to PageStream, and with the 2.22
version I have found nothing that makes me need to keep PPage areound or
want to go back to it. There are differences and I miss explicit
coordinates (which will be in 3.0, I'm told). There are, however
somethings you can do in PageStream thaat ProPage won't allow. Also
PageLiner is better, IMHO, than Article Editor, ArtExpression seems, from
what little I've used it, the equal of ProPage, and Gold DIsk has nothing
to emulate TypeSmith. And SL's support is much better. The advantages
stacked up so high that I had to admit the only reason I didn't do this
sooner was my reluctance to change and have to learn a new approach to
DTP. The penalty was not that stiff, though…
I also believe GD is gradually extracting themselves from the Amiga market
as their PC products begin to sell more. I would guess that they will
only deal in Amiga products as a publisher and not a producer in the
future.

Are you refering to the new and glorious spreadsheet that has been rumored
about here? Do you know something I don't know? I KNEW if I bought yet
onother spreadsheet it would finally come out…my expensive good deed for
the Amiga community ;^}.

Like you, I suffered long (and relatively silently) with
SuperPlan, waiting for that long-rumored spreadsheet to end all
spreadsheets. I think it is still "not ready for prime time" but
every so often there are these coy hints dropped here that prop up my
hope again (I think its about time for another coy hint from one of
the beta-testers, although I'd much prefer the real thing…)
I kept meaning to ask you, but never got around to it, what was the
problem printing from SP you were having? Printing has never been, for me,
the problem with SP — the file saving and loading facility was what sends
me into fits. If you can describe the problem, I might be able to figure
out why I don't seem to have it, and help sort it out for you. (I did buy
The Advantage, long time ago in the hopes it would be a good replacement
for SP, but disliked it on an overall basis, and so haven't thought about
ProCalc, which as I recall is Advantage upgraded, right?)

Hi Ed,
I would suspect that ProCalc is Multiplan in new clothing since it's
the only direct import besides Lotus 123. It's really not a bad
program, though I have a few improments to suggest. The printing's
OK, if you don't mind being able to do only regular or sideways 8.5 X
11 printouts with a choice of Amiga bitmap fonts. Of course my PS
printer will only print it's internal fonts since there's no way to
down load fonts. Dot Matrix printing is for the dogs!!! It's an ugly
graphic dump..& 'dump' fits it to a T!!!
SuperPlan droves me nuts for the same reason it does you…file saving &
loading. I figured out how to print. I print to disk and then configure my
HP4m & Prefs to do a landscape legal sized printout in a small courier
point size. But it was a big hassle & took a ream of paper to do.
I went for ProCalc since it just seemed reasonable that an Amiga style
program should have simple, direct & versitile PS printing. I guess I live
in a bubble.
