BJ200 driver ?

I am going to purchase either a Deskjet 500 or Canon BJ200 inkjet printer
to use with the Amiga.
I recently read better reviews of the BJ than the DeskJet500. I know the
DJ500 and that it has a driver now in 2.1.
My question really is not the quality of the printer as much as the
appropriateness of the AmigaDos drivers.
Does the Canon BJ-10 work well with the new BJ200 ? Or does that printer
really lack a good Amiga Driver.

i just purchased the BJ200 from service merchandise for 168.00. the
next cheapest i found was circuit city for 187.00..
to answer your question i like the BJ200 much better the the hp500.
download the canon driver software by wolf faust.. i forget whick lib i
found it in, it gives outstanding output..it also includes a seperate
program for graphic printing, but the drive by itself gives you all sorts
of control the 2.1 driver doesnt even touch.
i dont think you can go wrong with this combo at this price.

Surely you must mean $268 and $287 for purchase prices on the BJ 200. I
have never seen them anywhere for $168 or $187.
I checked at Circuit City here and it's $299.
The cheapest I've seen them is for $259 after the $30 rebate.

what was i thinking of. i bet your happy i dont fill out your pay
check. when i went to service merchandise they said that they had been on
sale about two or three weeks ago but they had ran out.. i just told them
i was in at that time and they gave it to me at that price…

ps so far the best output i get is with final copy….

Yes, I have a BJ-200 as well. I've been using it with the Wolf Faust
driver and Final Copy for several months now with no problems. The
output is excellent, whether for text or graphics! The only minor
gripe I have is that the ink cartridges don't seem to last very long
(or at l east as long as I'd like). But for the money, you just can't
beat this combo.
How long do the cartridges last.. average pages??? do you refill them or
purchase new ones.
i see in the new TENEX catalog u can send them away to get refilled i
think it was around $10 – $12 dollars…

Hi Mark, In all fairness to your question, I couldn't tell you how
many pages I'm getting out of a cartridge and alot of the printing I
do is graphics intensive. I saw the ad in Tenex for the refills.
Looks like a good deal although MEI Micro has syringe kits available
for $8.99 with enough ink for two cartridges and you don't have to
mail your cartridge off. Besides we all know Tenex is severely
over-priced and from my direct experience pretty ignorant when it
comes to Amiga products (an I just sell this stuff) attitude).
Anyway, if you'd like one of MEI Micro's catalogs, just call them at
1-800-634-3478. It beats the heck out of paying $20+ for a new
cartridge! Dan
I have a follow-up question. I am getting excellent results with my
BJ-200. When I use Epson LQ emulation the paper steps down 1/4 Inch.
This does not happen on my Epson LQ800 printer which is connected by
A-B switch> I have no other problems with LQ driver on either
printer. I called Canon tech. support and their only suggestion was
not to use emul.. I tried to find out how close Canon's emul. was, no
success. BJ-200 has different fonts avail- able in the two
modes…hence my desire to utilize both. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Please be more precise. What do you mean with "paper steps down 1/4"?
Where? When? Do you mean the 1/4" top margin? That's normal! Most pin
printers can print much more closer to the borders of your paper.
Specialy the LQ800 is known for having a special mechanism to feed
the paper back in order to print without any top margin (my first
printer was a LQ800… gave it away for free because of those $%&%$
at Epson).

Have you any experience with the Canon BJC-600? I am weighing the
purchase of a Canon BJC-600 against a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 550C.

I have been fortunate enough to see the 600 in action side-by-side with
the DJ550C, and to be kind to HP, their printer is very old. The 600 is of a
far superior design (new from the drafting table up), versus the tacked-on
fixit job the 500 series has become. The only way HP can compete with this new
engine is if they lighten the carriage on the 1200 series and make it
affordable (read: sub-$600 street prices). The color output, when measured
side-by-side with identical bitmaps (all printed from within MSWindows) is much
better, the detail is finer, and the performance on plain paper is extremely
high-quality (you can acheive near-coated performance with careful selection of
non-coated paper), and the coated-paper performance is even better, with the
support of 24-bit color maps. The major improvement over the HP, however, is
in the cost per color page. With a 30% coverage (7.5% of each color) the Canon
has a CPP over 50% lower than the HP, and it becomes even lower if you print
single-color-dominant images. Run out of red, and replace just red, not the
entire CMY cartridge. Street prices for cartridges should be in the $8-9
range, hope you've got a superstore in the vicinity. With the datasheet Canon
publishes, they claim a very reasonable 19c per color page. The only drawback
in the immediate future is the lack of an Amiga- specific driver and the
limited availability of the printer (demand is very high, so avoid the stores
with small quantities; they'll get their price, and they know it). The first
wave has broken, and the beach is clear, if you need one before '94, reserve it
nownownow, type bye and get to the stores!
