#keyframer problems

I'm new to the keyframer and I am having difficulty getting it to do
what I want it to do. I want the camera to dolly in a straight line
between points A and C. No problem. But if I want the camera to move
from point A to point B, which is directly between A and C, and then
on to C, I am having great difficulty. The reason I am using three
position keys is I want the camera to travel from A to B at one
speed, and from B to C at a different speed. The problem is that
instead of the camera doing this, the camera begins moving from A in
the wrong direction, and then returns to A, and then continues on to B
and C. When I examine the path, I find that it has a portion that
extends beyond A, and is folded, causing the camera to initally
travel in the wrong direction.
Can anyone explain to me why this is happening, and how to correct it ?

This is typical in the KF because the default KEY INFO "Tension-Continuity-Bias"
are set to give a smooth motion between keyframes. This can cause some
problems especially between two identical keyframes. Try adjusting the
Continuity slider to 0 for the keys effected.
OR…
If you like the effect coming into that key and you only want to change
the key data leaving …you can adjust the BIAS linear (0) leaving that key
and BIAS linear (50) approaching the next key.
Hope that helps. Oh yeah don't forget to adjust the T-C-B for the camera
target as well.
In release 3 you can set the default continuity to 0 in the 3DS.SET file if
you prefer working that way.

Ralph: I have tried all possible settings of the TCB settings. The problem
still persists. The length of the unwanted segment changes, but does not
dissappear. ??????

The aswere lies in Tension, Continuity and Bias. Pages 8-98..8-101 in
R3 reference manual. In summary tension affects the curvature of the
spline path through the key, continuity affects the angle at which
the spline path enters and leaves the key, and bias affects the
overshoot and undershoot of the motion as it passes through the
keysframe.
Tension values of 0 will give you linear affects as will continuity
values of 0. You can also delete you "B" key and use
"Paths/adjust[ease to/ease from]" to change the velocity with which
an object approaches a keyframe.
