Excellent idea! As a developing modeler I very much would like to see the
work of other modelers. I layout in 3ds more rapidly now than I ever did by
hand methods before.
I thought I was becomming a seasoned modeler. The first look I got at the
viewpoint catalogue
brought me down….way down. I want to become a really good modeler. Maybe
there is something in this contest that could be very good!
If there could be a fringe benifit: to own a cd of the entries
somehow..offer it at a cost…like 3drom..
not only would I benefit in learning but w/ an additional inventory of cool
stuff that I could
add into scenes. H*ll I've DLed every imaginable model I can find and I can't
stop!!
Dr. P has good intentions. Maybe Dr.P could author a modeling cd for the 3ds
community! I'd fly the red eye to Portland to pick up a copy in person!! The
digital graphix arena is a very special community! One of the first
impressions I got of it was that it was SO open!! Such a big change from the
architectural community!! Gary

If you come to Portland to see Dan the Dr. Pixel, you will have a long walk.
He is in the Seattle area.
You could visit me, however, and buy me a nice dinner <g>. A very nice
resteraunt in the U.S. Bank Tower that has a really fantastic view of the city.

D*mn I wish I'd talked to you first!! When I said red-eye I meant the
cyber-red-eye!! I'm already back! Got there and darned if I didn't get lost!
Ended up at someplace called Forest park on a street called Yeon. After
Dallas,
Portland is a paradise!! I got a really funky yellow Fiero cyber-rent car and
drove north on 405 to hwy 5, found a pay phone only to find just what you
said!!
HE'S NOT UNDER THE NAME PIXEL!!
I wasn't allowed to eat at the first restaurant because the Cyber-green
leisure suit I was wearing was not acceptable (Hated the 10 gallon hat also).
The U.S. Bank Tower sounds great! Next time I'm in I'll dine w/ you and we can
fix my Amex card acct afterwards. To dine like kings……yes Ilike it, Al,
you have style!!!!
Actually I've been to Seattle once and would gladly go back even to live in
the streets.! Portland is similar? How far south is it to LA?
If I DO get my trip to the northwest this season I WILL look you up and buy
dinner and go boot-scootin' afterwards. Gary

Thanks for your reply. My thought is to leave this open and see how people feel
about this and if anyone has a tangible proposition on how this might best be
accomplished, then maybe this would provide some options in further developing
the "contest".
You make another good point when you say you've download every imaginable model
you could find. That can add up in download time.
BTW what kind of models are you interested in? Just to help establish what
people might want to contribute etc.

The organic modeling interests me because since architectural presentation is
my business I naturally model rigid, static objects but after seeing the
article in CGW that was written by the Viewpoint modeler for 3ds ( the Canadian
Goose) I am amazed and drawn to organic.
I want to learn to model the things I need such as people. I'm interested in
very memory efficient
and good-looking objects for scene building. Heck, the scenes themselves! I'm
seeing that architecture is a very hard field to market 3ds to but network
marketing has led me to the right clients. Now I need
the step up in my modeling skills somehow. Oh well, I didn't mean to ramble,
