Several people have asked about color printer comparisons. The Dec93 issue of Byte has two articles worth reading. One thing I learnt was that only the HP1200 and above have pigmented inks, that are better than the dyes used in most of the cheaper ink jet inks. Also, Epson is supposed to be coming out with a color printer in 1994 that uses piezoelectric actuators (like the Epson Stylus 800). I'm still thinking about getting Canon BJC-600, which looks very good for text & solid colors. (After I can find a driver) Then, get color Xeroxes from Staples for <90c a copy when I need several. I think the Canon output looks better than the HP550C and about the same as the HP1200, but I have not seen the Canon on something like a scanned picture. The ink cartridges on the Canon are smaller than the DeskJet and do not have the print heads on them. But, they only cost about $8. Wonder how long the print head lasts..Hmmm. I have found that the type of paper makes a big difference with all the ink jets I've tried. Oddly enough, I've found "Classic Linen", with 25% rag, works best with the DeskJet+.
