Who should I fax my autoexec.bat and config.sys to and what else is needed to
figure our why I can't get the CorelSCSI Pro drivers to work with a external
Dual Bernoulli 150? I changed from an Adaptec 1542c to an Adaptec 1542cf and
still have problem. I talked with tech support for one hour twice and each
time I thought we had solved the problem but eventually something hangs up. I
removed my Soundblaster 16 ASP because of conflicts and removed the
Soundblaster Videospigot for the same reason. I am still having problems
writing to the Bernoulli 150s. The guys at tech support have been really nice
but I think that I am giving them some wrong info or data as to how my system
is set up. I don't know. Maybe if someone can tell me what to do exactly I
can figure it out.
Here is info that may help:
SCSI 0 – 1.5 gig HD
SCSI 1 – 500 meg HD
SCSI 2 – HP 35480A Tape Drive
SCSI 3 – Chinon 431 CD ROM
SCSI 4 – Bernoulli 150
SCSI 5 – Bernoulli 150
SCSI 6 – HP ScanJet IIc Scanner
SCSI 7 – Adaptec board

Is the Bernoulli drive spinning down? If it is, the driver's setable delay may
not be set high enough to allow the spin up to occur. For CorelSCSI version
1.2b add a /TMO:45 to the end of the driver line. If you have SCSI Pro, edit
the CRLSCSI.INI file and change the timeout option to 45.
Have you tried removing some of the devices from the chain to simplify the bus?
Depending on cable length and quality, you may be simply encountering a
termination problem.

Hi! I read your post here and seen you mention that you switched from adaptec
1542c to 1542cf!.. I was wondering why…
I just bought adaptec 1542c (with adaptec scsi master plus kit and Archive
Turbo Python DAT) and am wondering if there are some limitations to 1542c! Will
appreciate your comments..

There are definite limitations to the 1542c. It has random termination
problems that require special cables to be used on all SCSI devices. The
1542cf takes care of the problem by adding SCSI FAST to the board. If you do
not have many devices (external especially) then you may be okay.

If you read the posted apology you will understand the tardiness of my
response.
The 1542c had a termination problem associated with it. The problem would be
more pronounced if the cable was sub-standard ( less than 90-132 Ohms
impedance). This problem was found and rectified in there 1542c revision D
controllers. There is no longer a problem with the controller. It works well.
If you have have revision a,b,c without a modification on the rear of the board
I would call Adaptec. If you have a revision C card with a physical
modification on the rear of the board or revision D you are ok.
The revision number can be found on the rear of the board along the top edge.

I have been out of town so I did not receive your message until now. I removed
the 1542c and replaced it with a 1542cf. Supposedly this was to take care of
the problem. But, it has not. I guess my next try will be to put the 1542c in
with the 1542cf but only put the Bernoulli 150 on it. I keep thinking it is a
conflict in the IRQs or something because it will read sometime, other times it
says no disk in drive, or that the disk is write protected when it isn't.
Somehow I have to figure out the IRQs…. Does this sound logical to you?
Where should I concentrate my trouble shooting?
